E fan on 1998 durango

I have installed a electric fan on my 1998 dodge durango. My question is....I need to connect a wire.. the wire says to connect to a 12v key on power source? Anyone got any ideas? My motor is the 5.2. Thanks

so it wants power when the ignition key is in the on position and not the start position
if that's what "key " means"
do you have a wireing diagram you could post
if the above is correct you want to use a relay and not power your fan through the ignition switch
does this wire go to the fan or to a relay or speed controller?
I do not like to power headlamps through ignition or headlamp switches either

I second that about checking the wiring diagram.

I have a 95 Dakota that I would like to wire up with an E fan. Also, do you wire headlamps through a relay then? I've heard of that but I don't remember the how or why, so if you could explain I'd appreciate it.

do a search on the wire headlights through a relay
essentially find the wire from the headlamp switch somewhere in the engine compartment on it's route to headlamps - before it branches into two wires and use it to trigger a Hot >relay> ground
switches power circuit
relay gets power from battery> fuze" >relay> headlamps>ground
do foglamps and trailer circuits same way
