check engine light flashing?

today i was on the highway cruising at like 70-75, some hott chick pulls up next to me in a toyota echo and keeps checking me and my truck out, she speeds up to about 80, so did i, and we continued to cruise next to eachother for a little while checkin eachother out and then i slowed down a little and my exit was coming up in like half a mile, she pulled ahead and i floored it only hitting about 100 and i heard the ding come on like the check gauges and low fuel light ding but it was the check engine light flashing for like a minute.....any ideas?

do the on-off thing three times and get the code.

Paul - no dakota currently, who thought finding a 91 318 5 speed CC would be so hard.

Mine has done the same thing before. I wanted to see what the 3000 rpm module would do. I put it in hit 3k and it blinked for about 15-20 seconds, not a minute i know, then went away.. I assumed it was a misfire causing it. Maybe not.

I'll bet money your oil is low and the check gauges went off when you temporarily lost oil pressure slowing down.

The CEL blinks when there is a serious issue that can cause engine or catalyst damage. Such as a misfire that dumps raw fuel into the cats. If it is blinking, you need to knock off whatever you're doing.

This is correct. When it flashes it is like the truck saying "Knock it off fucker, you wont like what I do next"

Blinking check engine light with no resulting code, pretty much means it was detecting a misfire, but didn't meet the criteria to set a code.

Or at least not a hard code that would set the check engine light. Chances are if he were to go to a parts store and check out the scanner, he'd have multiple cylinder misfire codes.
