Reprogramming 45rfe to 545rfe

Are there any chrysler techs who can check and see if it is possible to reprogram 45fre in 2002 dakota to 545rfe. I have jeep TSB in front of me that shows can be done on 99-01 cherokee 45rfe and was told of someone having the jeep update put into a 2002 ram. TSB is 1802501 dated 10/15/01 called 45rfe shift quality enhancements for the 2-3, 4-5 and 5-4 shifts / addition of 5the gear ratio, they even tell you how to check to make sure you get the 5th gear. Any verified info would be great

I heard about this as well and would love it...

I'm on a first name basis with a few people in the service department at my local dealer and they didn't know anything about it.

Sorry I can't be of help, because I really want this to be possible as well.

BTW - Where are you in PA?

I'd call the guys at B&G Chrysler. They probably have the answer you're looking for.

(586) 758-2003

I would ask and see who the best person to talk with would be. I'm not sure who would know most about that.

That thread talks about something that isn't relavent as to why the flash can or cannot be done. What was mentioned was the fact that the Jeeps got a flash which gave them the 5th gear. What was compared was the fact that the 2003+ Dakota/Durango got the 5th gear, which was also the change to the NGC controller.

It was stated that it may be the fact that the TCM is to blame, which it's not. The Jeeps that got the 5th gear flash also have the same exact JTEC controller, which has the TCM, as the 2000-2002 Dakota/Durango. The programming was the one to give the 5th gear in the JTEC controllers and the NGC controllers came programmed with it. This has nothing to do with the fact that the JTEC has a separate TCM, while the NGC doesn't.

Just my opinion...

Can a Dakota pcm be updated at a jeep dealer?

Or could you just get a hold of a matching year cherokee 4.7 auto pcm and run that then get it flashed at dealer?

Well, DC owns Jeep and they use the same scan tool and parts (for the most part).

Now it is the beginning of
a fantastic story! Let us
make a Journey to
the cave of Monters!
Good luck!
