1999 Dakota Infinity System Questions

What is the output rating on the factory Infinity stereo system? Is there a sub available that can be installed without cutting the factory wiring? I want to keep the factory system intact and maybe add in a small sub behind the drivers seat. Thanks.

You should be able to do that with a small powered sub. If you have a RC I know that a powered 6" tube will fit behind the passenger seat if you relocate the jack. I took out the jack and then smashed the bkt.'s into the floor. This way I can possibly pop them back up to sell. Anyway my 6" Audiobahn powered sub fits back there really good and tight. It sounds great for what I wanted. You should be able to add a sub like this to your stock system. It's easier with an aftermarket head unit though. As I learned there is a factory amp in the passenger kick panel. It's got 24 wires running to it, I think. I have the wiring diagram if you or anyone wants it.

There are supposed to be 8 speakers total for the Infinity system.
2-tweeters in doors
2-full range in doors
2-full range in cab corners
Where are the other 2? Factory parts catalog list 2 for the dash. Are there any in the dash? If there are what size are they? This would be on a 1999 Dakota standard cab model.

there definitely isn't any 8 speaker system Dodge came out with for a Standard cab. 6 speaker is as good as it gets.

As for the factory unit, I placed aftermarket speakers all the way around and the factory unit just couldn't handle it. The speakers faded in and out when turned up high, and one of my aftermarket tweeter's blew as well. These weren't cheap speakers either, these were the latest Infinity Reference components.

Long story short, I put the stock speakers back in and I personally think it sounds better.

**And for the record. I like my steering wheel controls, and I like my interior to be color coordinated. So no, I'm not getting an aftermarket stereo**

The Infinity speakers must be coaxials. Are there any in the dash?

you've got 2 behind you, 2 in the door, and 2 tweeters also in the door. That comprises your 6 speaker stereo. Speakers in the dash were never placed in GenIII dakotas :biggthump

I wonder why Dodge literature totes it as being "8" speakers in 6 locations? I had an 98 Ram std cab with the Infinity system and it sounded pretty good. I also had an 01 Quad cab with Infinity and it sounded like terrible. I hope that the 99 Dakota std cab Infinity system sounds good. I will probably put in a small powered sub behind the drivers seat. I was thinking about a small powered Bazooka. I don't want to rattle windows and such. Sound quality for me is more important.
