Wouldn't it suck if...

Wouldn't it suck if you were searching for something, and somebody asked a question in the same exact way you searched for it.. you click on the thread, and all the replies just say to search? Well, fuck, I was just searching...

It's kinda annoying, that's like 30% of the posts on here. Don't get me wrong, you guys are great, I wouldn't know shit about Dakotas or Durangos if it wasn't for you all.... but.. it's impossible to search for things when every post says to just fucking search!

Can we stop doing that? If it's a repost of a question, can we paraphrase an answer? Just for archival purposes? Perhaps.. share a link to a thread YOU found in a search? Clearly our search terms are not going to be the same, an experienced member might know more what to look for.

I tend to agree. I always hated the "got google?" or use the search answer. Thats not the point and using the search doesn't always work. It doesn't take that much longer to post some sort of answer than it does a smart ass comment.

Sometimes the same question is asked numerous times by several different posters over a couple days, obviously the guys posting aren't reading anything...The answers, sometimes numerous, are just a couple posts down.

I do agree with you in the sense that the time that it takes to complain that someone didn't use search an answer could have been givin.

me personally(if of coarse i know what im talking about) i will give a lil info and then tell them to use search. for example the sas threads, there are so many off road newbs(i was one in the beginning lol) that get on here hoping to find a easy cheap sas with little labor. a lil search will stop right away when they find that there is a ton of work involved.

so i am on your side but i still tell em to use search.

search sucks, most of the time it gives topics completely unrelated to what you are searching for.

Unfortunately having a forum that's been established for a long time has its advantages and disadvantages - there's literally tens of thousands of helpful threads full of information, but there's also 9 years of threads that range from bad info to "got search?".

Now that most of the ignorant chicken littles from last year have moved on, perhaps we could add some more assistant moderators whose job it would be to go through the various subforums and flush out the worst threads that are full of bad info or "got search?".

On the other hand sometimes people get angry if you revive a thread that's been dormant for half a decade. I never understood why that rubs people the wrong way since this isn't a current events website, duplicated truck topics are discouraged, and something that's true with a Gen 3 Dakota is going to be valid whether the topic is discussed in 2006, 2011, or even 2097.

Hey SinStevie R/T, could the board be configured with some sort of method to flag a post as a duplicate? If a feature like that was designed to allow the flager to post a link to the thread it duplicates then a moderator could merge the threads together.

our trucks are getting older and in some cases ending up in junk yard, thus decreasing the numbers of people to discuss their mods etc. Plus they will be discontinued soon, so for those that hate the rehash of old threads and the repetition of some topics, too bad, so what. either don't take the time to type or do the serach yourself and provide the link. If you were bored or interested in seeing what the latest questions is then obviously u had nothing better to do at the moment except maybe give a newbee shit for not reading through all the crap to find the one answer that takes about 5 mins of your time. If i see a post about the same shit different day either i ignore it or give my 5 cents, whatever.

You get this on every forum I post on. I'm one of the guys who will either post an answer to the question or just not reply. People that just reply to use search are imo no better than the post whore and are just trying to increase their post count and have no intentions of actually trying to help anyone out. and probably don't know the correct answer anyways. Cause if they did, then they'd post it.
