Angry NV1500, NV3500 or AX15?

So I found a 5spd in the bone yard, rather my girlfriend found it for me. The doner is a 98 RC 3.9 5spd. Well didn't I get all the damn bell housing bolts/mounts off....ready to drop the tranny, then I see that the case is 3 pieces. Before I went back to the yard, I did some research on these transmissions. Being as I have a 5.2 for my project truck, I had figured the NV3500 would be the modest choice. So it is told, the NV3500 didn't come in the 3.9's until 2000,....and the bell housing is integral with the case, which apparently is only 2 pieces. This leads me to one of two conclusions;

1. Someone went and replaced a popped NV3500 with an NV1500 because of budget reasons (sources say it was only available with the 4 banger )

2. I'm looking down the barrel of an AX15,....which apparently isn't worth its weight in piss.

I'm going back tomorrow, there are a few 5spd rams there,...99 and up,....if anyone could shed some light on this before I continue removing the bastard child transmission......it would be greatly appreciated.

All V8's had the NV3500...the AX15 will not hold up to the power of V8...

V6 & 4 bangers had the AX15....which is what's behind my 94 Dakota with 3.9

My 3.9L has the NV3500. I believe the earlier years of the gen III had the AX15 and some of the later ones could then come with the option of the "heavier duty" NV3500. I wouldn't even put the AX15 behind my V6 let alone your 5.2L

Well don't say that haha i just know what mine has. I know mine was an "upgrade" too and I am unsure of the years they had this available.
