front drive shaft replacement

Anyone here replace the front drive shaft before? The cv on the tcase end is shot. Somehow the rubber boat around it came off and of course lead to there being no grease on the bearings and in turn a ruined cv...

Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone had replaced them and if it's a straight forward job or not. Haven't looked a whole lot at it yet since its in the school parking lot full of snow, but when I go home I want to replace it. It sounds bad..

Thanks in advance for the help.

Replacing them is pretty straight forward. There is plenty of info on this topic in the forum. Do a search on "Front Drive Shaft" and you should find the anwers you are looking for.

its prety straight forward task... just time consuming.... you will need a fearly long *cheeter pipe* to get the c-clip to pip off the shaft. other then that only a 1 or 2 hour job.

Ok cool. I figured it would be, I can't believe Dodge wanted 400 and something dollars for one. I see Napa has them for $298... There are some on ebay, but I'm skeptical on that one. For the $40 extra I rather just get the one from Napa.

i got my last one from napa and i liked it. good quality and the best deal i found out of the other stores. just make sure you get the one that has the double U-joint to replace the stupid CV joint the stocker has. then it shouldn't fail again.

rockauto also has one for a bit less too.

I've always liked Napa, they seem to make things affordable but also better quality then OEM, so I use them for a lot of factory parts that I replace.

I was thinking the exact same thing but how would it line up on the transfer case ? . 2 nd question can someone measure their front driveshaft for me as I am having a hard time finding a 04' and wondering if another year would work out .

I switched mine out a few months ago and Ive never done this kinda thing before, I got mine from wholesaleimportparts.com, I was gonna pay a shop to do the work for me but after talking to their technical guy, he explained what to do and I felt pretty damn confident about doing it my self and saved some good money!

Drive shaft works great.
