Louder exhaust on my 3.9?

I have a 99 dakota with the 3.9 magnum and wanted to get a more aggressive sound. I'm still in school and money's short so I don't wanna buy a v8 or straight pipe cause it's illegal where I am. What good mufflers are out there that have a nice deep tone?

I have a thrush turbo. It's deep and only occasionally gets raspy.

I like my Thrush glass pack.

I'd start with an inexpensive glass pack, rent a tailpipe cutting tool, and just clamp it on for a while.

If that's not your taste (too loud or sounds bad), at least you can quantify what you want besides "LOUDER!!!"

I saw cherry bombs at autozone for like $30. I was thinking about one of those but I heard they don't sound that good and my bud said they sound like an exhaust leak. Any opinions on those?

Glasspacks on the 3.9 sound like ricers.

Not on my 1988 3.9; but I have the full exhaust pipe past the 22" glass pack too.

YMMV, though.

I hate the sound of the 3.9 with a "loud" muffler
It inherently has a drone at just the wrong speed
It had a flowmaster on it when I got it that sounded horrible
My magnaflo sounded great at idle but was annoying at speed
These are even fire engines (the way I understand it)
Some motors just sound better quiet
