...and therein lies the problem. All of the brimstone and damnation was added in, after the fact, to frighten people. Let's see...we can use love and understanding, while helping people decide to live their lives in harmony, OR we can just threaten them into submission.

If the Romans had not fucked with the original writings of Jesus, it might not have been such a bad ideal. Instead, they added in all of the fantasy like virgin birth, miracles, made-up birth/death dates, and resurrection. Too bad.

I was going to but it figured it would open up a can of worms. I agree with your points. Personally raised a catholic, when I started reading into history I changed my views dramatically. It boggles my mind how these die hard Christians have no clue what they are talking about with the constant Islam bashing. When in fact they all come from the same source. Again speaking from a European back round it boggles my mind how my people can take Christianity so seriously when it wasn't even the religion of their original ancestors.

As I delved deeper and deeper into the history of religion, I was simply amazed at how many times people would fuck with what looked like a fairly good thing. The Romans should have stuck with their "pagan" rites, instead of incorporating HALF of them into Christianity. It seemed to be working for the rest of Europe at the time.

True , though this was farther into the Roman empire and closer to the crash. In fact when Christianity became the official religion of the Empire it slowly slipped into decay. Attempting to follow the teachings of Christianity will get you NOWHERE in life. By current teachings you are taught to allow people to do anything they want to you, and only offer forgiveness in return. Lay down and smile like a good Christian Lamb.

Had Constance not acted as he did, one of two things would have happened to Christianity. The meager cult would have just lost steam and blew away in the wind, or it would have grown slowly, holding on to the original values (and without all of the hocus-pocus). As is was, it was a rare anomaly, 300 years after the death of Jesus.

He was a self centered ass. He wanted it all and never knew how to stop.

I was hoping for a military solution...none of this pussy-footing around with a bunch of jurors who were interrupted from their day time soap operas.
