Those plastic wedges that carpeters use to level door jams work too. A nice hair dryer (not the $15 walmart kind) will heat up the decal letters and emblems up and it will slide off like butter.
Some of the 3rd gen trucks had emblems with pegs on them (v8, etc) so you might not want to take those off unless you want holes in your fenders! Then, off to be polished. Hope you kept your paint in good shape over the years, or there may be a visible difference... uh oh.

i used an ancient heat gun and goo gone. im not sure if the stickers were made differently, but on my truck i originally had the "dakota sport" on the doors, with sport being the small block lettering, not the "cursive" lookin stuff. my "sport" on the door and the "4x4" stickers on the bed peeled right off with a little heat and left virtually no goo. but the dakota lettering on the door... man what a bitch! no matter how i heated it or which way i pulled, they broke apart into a million pieces and left adhesive all over my door. it took a little elbow grease with goo gone and lighter fluid but its all off now.

i used pliers to grab onto my plastic badges and pulled gently and used a eraser wheel to remove the 3m tape.
