01 Dakota PCM replacement question

I have an 01 Dakota quad cab 4.7 that has been have rpm surging then stumbling issues. The dealer diagnosed it and said it will need "powertrain control module for #7 injector control circuit issue." They said it should be done within a month so it doesn't burn itself through??? It is about a $600-700 repair . Can anyone advise me if this sounds correct? there are 124,000 miles but truck is excellant other than that. thanks for any help or advice!

You can change the PCM yourself, but if you have the factory alarm and/or sentry key (is your key kinda fat and grey?) the PCM has to be programmed at the dealer.

There shouldn't be more than a $75 charge to swap and program the PCM I'd think. Depends on what they're screwing you on PCM price I guess.

If you really need a PCM replacement don't let the dealer pillage your wallet. I bought a rebuilt PCM for my son's 1999 Dakota RC - $199 with free shipping on the new unit and the core return. It has a lifetime warranty. It is simple to replace it yourself.

The eBay seller is "allcomputerresources". Everything about the unit and the transaction is first class.
