I was driving home today and my cluster said to check gauges, So I look down and my volt meter is PEGGED at 18v. I dropped it into neutral and it went down to normal (just a hair over 14v). About 2 miles from home it shot back up to 18v. I shifted back down to neutral and it returned to normal again. When I got home I checked all the wiring for damage and unusual heat, everything looked good and nothing was overly hot. Any ideas as to why?
Id just get a new one, or reman the one you have now, unless, test the alt first, see if its bad, if its good then it has something to do with the voltage guage
if its not the pcm though, prolly the guage motor
I just had this exact issue about a month ago. Check the Battery Temp Sensor located under the battery. I replaced it and haven't had any further issues with the voltage meter pegging.
