Just added to my small list of things done to the truck this past Saturday. I out on the Gibson Extreme Dual system on my Quad.
First off before I get into how things went, let me tell you this. When I was under the truck and taking off the stock system I found that someone at the factory must know how to read English, and not only that, but does not know what an arrow facing like this --> means. The tool put on my muffler backwards. No biggie some of you may say, but if you could see what it looks like you would change your mind on that.
The muffler has the word "INPUT" on it and also the above mentioned arrow in the direction of exhaust flow. Now you would think that the baffles inside would allow flow just as unrestricted backwards, but the blue and other colors of the spectrum on my muffler tells me othewise. Seems that the exhaust flow must have been "stacking up" inside and building up all kinds of heat in the muffler. No wonder I could hardly hear the truck when it was running. I never thought twice of it. I had not even driven a new Dakota before I bought this one off the showroom floor, so how was I to know that it was too quite? So now maybe all you guys should look under your trucks and see how your muffler is installed. Get back to us all on this thread and lets compare.
One last things before I move on from this, the truck now runs cooler than before. Temp guage, as "accurate" as it is was dead on the halfway mark before. Now it is about one third of the way up under the same conditions.
Ok back to the install...........
Old system came off in about 5 minutes. All while laying on my back in the garage. No sissy lift for me, well too lazy to drive it to work and use it actually. New one went on in about 15 mins, and that includes adding the hanger for the drivers side pipe and moving a brake line out of the way of said pipe.
Took me longer to get the tips "just right" than to do the entire system including stock removal.
Sound? So much better, but not loud enough for me. I may give this muffler to my brother for his Dak and put on twin Spintechs after a custom Y-pipe. I will see if the sound grows on me for a while before I do that though.
Was it worth the $340 I paid for it? Yes, very much so. Even if I leave it as is it was worth every penny. Well made and a breeze to install.
Now to put on the SS nerf bars that came today and add to my list even more.
So far in the first 1,200 miles of owning this my mods are-
EGR in channel wind deflectors
Fresh air intake with K&N (custom air wall and all tubing wrapped in a heat "sock").
Gibson Extreme Duals
Soon to be added SS nerf bars
And few other small things I forgot about untill I see them on the truck. Yes I suffer from CRS. :biggthump
