Nice looking trucks! :biggthump

Here is my old beater, complete with backwoods pinstriping, dents and rust..... :jester:

Had it for 5 years now and it had been smacked pretty hard in the front by a deer when I got it, it still shows some of the scars from that but I got it super cheap and it owes me nothing. :biggthump

Here's some more of mine... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/chester_peabody/dakotherside.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/chester_peabody/dakside.jpg
that's the current state rt wheels on the front and some old crabs on the back cuz I can't afford tires. As you can tell I've stopped washing it because I'm getting ready to do another repaint after I shave my door handles. I'm going with a copper mettalic (don't say amberfire!!!!) it's going to be the same color as my bike http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/chester_peabody/bike.bmp and I'm putting some flares back on it. This color is alot brighter and has a ton more flake in it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/chester_peabody/dakdriversside.bmp Thats the first pic I have when I started I was alot shittier but I didn't think to start documenting things until I had it in peices. And for shits and giggles here's my old DSM It was truly a badassed car and I've bitched enough about it in other posts I thought I'd toss it up here so you all know I know where I'm coming from when I say they's a POS :biggthump http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/chester_peabody/Jul2266.jpg Yes I painted that one too I've got a thing for electric blue that I've just recently grown out of.

I think I need to paint the door handles. Any opinions? They seem to stick out on a white truck.

Yeah i think i saw ur truck on Cardomain a while ago when it was still halfway sanded and what not...I think with ur painted mirrors and clear corners, the painted handles would look good. But then the rest of ur black trim would stick out even more. just my opinion...

MoPaR DaK
11-01-2005, 10:10 PM
I don't think thats lapis blue, there is another darker blue that they put on these trucks too and is not lapis.. I think it looks to dark to be lapis.. but could be wrong

WUWU20
11-01-2005, 11:22 PM
Mine is PCH Brilliant Blue.....sure looks just like yours, ol well, still bad ass :woowoo: Yea, mine is just 2-3, if you go 2 more in the front than mine, you better start cutting them fender wells out...lol trust me, when that tire goes up and hits the inner fenders, it's a HAND FULL! I had to extend my bump stops with just the 2 inch drop (spindels) because of this problem.

KREWZER
11-01-2005, 11:44 PM
what shocks are u running? And i dont think my stockers are wide enough to hit the fenders. And too bad ur truck isnt the same color, Lapis blue is awesome. Urs still looks good :biggthump

How wide the tire is has nothing to do with it hitting, its how tall it is, mine are the stock hight and they slame into the inner fenders without the adjustment I did to the bumps and I'm only running 2 inch drop spindels. Unless you are running a whole lot shorter tire than stock and I mean alot they will hit if you don't change you bump stops. I added a piece of 1 1/4 square tube to the lower control arm pad that hits the rubber bump.

KREWZER
11-02-2005, 02:28 AM
so i guess ur running the stock shocks then still since u only did a 2" drop? Man i just took my spindles out of the box, and damn theyre hella smaller than my stockers, plus my coils....damn its gonna be low, hopefully. But yeah, im still running the 215/75s in the front. But i need new tires anyway so ill get em when i get back from germany. Ill probably throw 195/75s on all around since ill have my 5" rear drop installed then too.

But i just figured since my tires arent that wide that they wouldnt rub on the inside, and i heard that i could just bend the lip on the inside of the fender up and it would keep the rubbing to a minimum.

WUWU20
11-02-2005, 02:35 AM
If I get to install my roll pan tomorrow (exhaust tips came today!!) I'll take some pics of what I'm talking about while its on the lift so you can see where it'll rub and the blocks I did.

KREWZER
11-02-2005, 03:05 AM
ok, sounds good. Like i said, im not too worried about, im putting the spindles and coils on and my trucks just gonna sit there till March anyway (lost license) plus ill be in germany. I dont think 195/75s will rub, they are hella small.......I know your supposed to, but did u have to get a front end allignment when u got the spindles on? Supposedly the toes gonna be in like 3" after the spindles are on. I dont care about the inward camber, i just dont want my truck to be bowl legged...

MoPaR DaK
11-02-2005, 03:20 AM
Spindles will change nothing.. it's the springs that will alter the way the wheels sit as far as alignment

KREWZER
11-02-2005, 03:24 AM

hmmm...ok...so the only thing thats gonna be different is the camber angle? U have a PM...

MoPaR DaK
11-02-2005, 03:50 AM
Everything should be exactly the same with the lowering spindle, it is the exact same thing as the stock ones except the hub gets mounted two inches higher, thus makes the truck sit two inches lower. The springs will change things as far as alignment though.. not sure how much but you'll be able to tell if its off

My alignment was way out after the spindles, wheel was out of center and wheels towed in, you will need a F.E.A after your done.

Nope took nothing loose but the spindles, they were easy to install and I wouldn't have thought that it would have changed anything but it sure did, I drove it home that night after I installed them and could really tell that things were out of wack so I had a F.E.A done the next morning, I used brand new Bell Techs.

DownBoi, put the things in man, it aint no big deal to get a F.E.A, don't let 30-40 bucks stop ya! :bs2:

Hey ScatDak, I sent you a message about that rear sway bar but hadn't heard anything from ya, if you still want rid of it let me know.

I dont have a picture of the tires specifically, although 235 fit just fine, i think the rim is set for 225 because thats whats up front lol, as you can tell from my sig. i go through tires quite often so usually im just buying rear tires and sometimes they dont match the fronts. Right now i dont have barely any rubber left on the tires from having to much fun... especially with these 17 y old kids and their POS fox body mustangs :D Other than that if i have time i'll take a few pics of the tires so you guys can have a good laugh at how much rubber i have left lol.

You should get some GenIII rims and put some 255/60 or 275/60's on them. You will hook way better. You will get a better Trap speed with the 255/60 though because of the smaller tire. When I installed the locker and 275's I went from a 14.7 at 101 to a 13.9 at 101. I went almost a second faster but I blame the speed on the larger, heavier tire. I still cant hook up though, 2.23's 60 foot. I got E/T street now though, new times soon. Last track I went too blew some major ass.

I have definitely been thinking about it, especially a pair of those R/T rims. When i first bought the truck, it was back in 04, with 88,000 original miles, and ran a 15.7, since then i've brought it down considerably but my 60' foot is sitting over 2 sec's like yours i believe i was a 2.2 or somewhere around there. (I havent been to the track since last summer.) I figure though, if i go with Low Profile tires with aluminum rims, that hopefully i wont gain to much in weight, so hopefully my trap speed will go down, along with my E/T. I know the truck should be in the mid to low 13's i'm just fighting the weight/hook ratio for the bed.

My 26X10.5 E/Ts weight about 18 pounds a piece. The 275's are almost 35. R/T rims and tires are gonna wiegh more than what you have now though.

I dont know much about the long beds..is the wheel base extended before or after the axle. If its after you should be getting better wieght transfer than a short box.

Heh, i just realized we're getting quite off topic, so i'll start up a new thread, but to answer your question, honestly i dont know if its extended before or after the axle. I would assume it would be after, but like i said, IDK.

As far as traction.. what I did when I had my S-10 with a LT-1 was run with weight in the back and adjusted it til I got it where I wanted it. When I figured out the amt of weight I needed, I made a box that fit between the wells to put the weights in. What I dod as far as the weights go is I took old wheels weights and melted them down and made them into "blocks." I was going to make custom lead pieces that mounted over the fenderwells in the empty space of the bed. But I never got around to that.

Yes, sealed beam, same as 1 gen Dakotas. Here of course lamps is E-sertified and parking lights is in same beam, because they must be white, yellow/orange is not legal.
I just haven't seen any similar lights even not other european countries, but like you said, there is also used same system.

Vortech92,

Any more pics of info on your truck?

What lowering equipment are you running, what size wheel/tire combo?
Custom grill?

Any suspension/handling modifications?

Vortech92
06-05-2007, 03:04 AM
It has 3 in drop blocks in the back and 2 in drop coils in the front. Those are 17 in Billet Specialties wheels (very old ones) with nitto drag radials 275/45 on the back and 245/45 ventus hr2's on the front. The grill is some kinda billet one...it was on the truck when I got it...never seen one like it before. No susp. or handling mods. Here are some recent pics...

It was on ebay...but I bought it from a guy that lived about 30 miles from me. He had it on ebay...but I got it before anyone bought it off there. Saw it at our local 1/8th mile dragway and had to have it.

Vortech92, in your sig you have an extensive list of engine mods, but only an MSD boost retard (heh, retard) and Mopar PCM controlling it. Is that really all, or is there something else not mentioned? How smoothly does it run? I'm curious because I'm building a bored/stroked 5.2L and our PCM choices are quite limited on the older Daks. Do you think I'll be fine just using the Mopar PCM? I plan on keeping it NA, so no boost or nitrous to worry about.

And thanks for the better pics, that thing looks mean :drive: :mullet:

Yep that is it...I talked to KRC and they said I could run all the way up to 30lb inj with the mopar pcm. KRC told me there was no way to flash my model pcm so there isn't really anything you can do. It runs great...I can 't even tell a diff with the 24lb inj in...and it is right on the money on the wide band o2...drives like stock!

You can also run a Megasquirt to control everything, or consider changing over to a Ford MAF system. Those are the two cheapest options to get more tuning and control on our trucks. I haven't decided which way to go yet on mine. There are benefits to each option.

I asked this in that forum, but will ask here too. How do you get the photos to show up with your post? I'm probably an idiot for not being able to figure it out. Help?

Everything to run an engine out of a 89-93 5.0 Mustang. Harness, PCM (they call it an EEC), TB, MAF, engine sensors, O2 sensor, distributor and upgraded injectors.

The hardest thing is having the mustang distributor machined to match up with the Dodge one, and then it will fit into the block. The EEC is self adapting, and very forgiving. It will take a lot of mods before it runs out of power. And there is a ton of aftermarket stuff for it, including data logging and other programs to further tweak the power curves, etc.

You do need to get an elbow for the manifold that adapts a ford TB to a carbed intake - they are pretty inexpensive.

Here is a thread from a guy who did it to a blown 360 in a Challenger.

http://www.dodgetrucks.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=78783&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

Here is his original thread on cuda-challenger

http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=7247.0

And here is a more recent one.

http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=28401.0

And finally here is a guy who used the GM LS1 stuff on his. This option is a little more expensive, as the Ford stuff is cheaper to get and easier to adapt overall. He was adding it to a 5.7 Hemi motor though, but the same thing can be done to a magnum in theory. I am sure someone has done it, but for me the LS1 system is too expensive since it is a coil on plug setup, the overall cost of the basic bits is higher, and upgrading coils if needed is significantly more expensive. Plus it looks like additional fab work may be needed beyond a distributor machining.

http://mysite.verizon.net/ls6ron/id1.html

And finally, here is the main site for Megasquirt, if you are interested in that.

You know all about Rustconsin, or is it Saltconsin too! Didn't notice before where you're from. Been to (past) Waukesha many a time on my way to Brookfield where we stay for Ford training school, and New Berlin where the training school is. Yep, I work at a Ford dealer which means job security, yes? Anyways, suppose I better get going and batten down the hatches for the possible tornado's, large hail, 70 mph straight winds, etc..... that's headed towards us with in the next couple hours. Gotta make sure the generators ready to go too. Hey, you never know! Worst part is, my house is on a slab, no basement. Always get nervous when a big storm is coming. None of the neighbors houses have basements either. If everything survives, catch everyone later.

I made it myself. The Roll Pan I got off E-bay years ago for about 30 bucks or so. The tips are Gibson stainless steel. about 60 bucks per tip. I measured and cut the roll pan and then had the exhaust hung.

The KKB for the Dakota is about $4200, I paid $4000. I feel it was worth it! The Dakota is going to be my DD and the Durango is the family grocery getter. The Durango only has 87K miles on it and the Dakota has 86K actually. Not bad for a 10 and 15 year old trucks! I have owned the Durango for 4 years now and it is by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Hopefully the Dakota lives up to the same standards. There is still something wrong with a 5.2 in a mid sized pick up!

Im not saying the price was bad. Im saying they hold their value pretty good!
Ive been looking for awhile and its hard to find an extended cab /v8 truck. let alone a clean 4x4 model. So you got lucky!

For what little Ive got done to mine...its pretty peppy! Figure a few hundy in some nice bolt ons...and you'll have a fun little truck.
I did some rockers, 52mm with cable conversion, headers, and an underdrive pulley. Runs right with the new Tundras! If I put the M1 on I think I could get a mid 14@92ish in the 1/4.

Oh, I don't have any intention of doing anything to it. My Durango has a CAI and that is the extent of it's mods. This has a round air filter on the top of the engine, so there is no need for a CAI on it. I want to put a spray in bedline and a class 3 tow hitch on it. I also would like to get a matching fiberglass cap for the bed. On the plus side, she has a beautiful Alpine Stereo system in her!

All you need for the conversion is Rotors from a 90 Dakota with 15" wheels and the Axles and drums from the same model.

Not that easy for a 4x4 truck. Had to take off the hubs, press out the flange and had a shop weld up 2 of the holes and redrill for the 5x4.5 pattern on the flange and then on the rotors too.

Actually no I think you can use the Hubs from a 87-90 model and go that route. Im not 100% on that one

hey 91dak239 what kind of rims are those black ones?

Those rims would be Crager Soft 8's in Black (They come in black powder coat or chrome.) The fronts are 17x8" and the rears are 17x9" They'll run you about 55$-65$ each from summit racing.

Ok... I bought her in June, I've worked on her a bit. She needs a paint job, but I am not going to do that till I get back to the lower 48 states. What do y'all think? I have my snow tires on right now, but I have a set of gen 1 Durango 15 inch rims to go on her in the spring with new tires. I also need to find a new front valance.

She's nice! That is the same color as mine. Mine is a 4x4. I have a couple of ideas in mind for mine too. I have the same rims as you to put on mine. But I don't know if I wanna go 255/70 R15s for a sporty street truck look or 31/10.5 R15s for the 4X4 look.

I want to get mine repainted and get the black moldings on the sides taken off, along with the LE badge behind my side windows. I like the fender flares, so they are staying. I can't decide if I want a black hood or white hood with red stripes down the top of the truck. Either way, I will have to take my running boards off if I want to put 31s on it.

Here's some updated pics of my truck I've posted some of 'em before some are new though. As compared to the photos i originally posted in this thread on my truck I have replaced the truck bed with another one without body damage so it's in a stylish shade of primer gray atm. (Oh and yes I know that the bumper is slightly lower on the driver side.)

Truck looks good bro! Just curious though. I've noticed alot of people going w/ bright blue HID heads and the Yellow Fogs as of late. New trend or what?

91dak239
11-05-2008, 07:06 AM
As for trends I have no idea :jester: I think it looks cool it is contrasting and my other reasons are below, my philosophy is its gotta be functional and higher performing than stock well in most all cases.

Well the yellow fogs are much better if you plan to sue them in adverse weather conditions, to the the light color the light reflects less off of fog so it is easier to see.

The headlights are actually a very slight off-white light output but when looking at the lenses they always show up a white-blue lol

b2™
11-05-2008, 07:09 AM
I've just seen it around here alot. I've always heard about yellow bulbs and yellow light housings better for fog/rain that's why alot of your GT racing classes use them. I just really hate the color yellow :jester:
