I just got a throttle body and cable from a 97 5.9L Ram and would like to know if the throttle cable from the ram will work on my 3.9L Dak. :help:

u might be able to use the cable u have now, some people have had no problem puttin the stock cable on the v8 throttle body, but if it doesnt, then u just have to use the V8 cable u got.

so it doesn't matter that the cable came off of a Ram?

ummm, i dont think it does. As far as i know, when people cant just "hook up" their V8 TBs, its because on the V6 TB, theres a little ball that the cable connects to, and on the V8 i think its a little flat head thing.

Thanks for the response. Looks like i'll be swappin tb's this weekend. :biggthump

why dont u just do it tonight still, kinda late, or tomorrow morning, should take u like five minutes, although i dont know about the cable, i got a V8 tb coming to me right now too, so i might have to change mine, plus u wanna get a new gasket anyway. But yeah, ull definitely feel a difference with the V8 "swap" :biggthump

I think i'll wait unti this weekend. i hate tryin to work on the truck in the dark. I won't get a chance to do it tomorrow so that leaves me with saturday. i plan on changin out my cap, rotor, wires and spark plugs at the same time since i'll have the intake removed.

since i'll have the intake removed.
u dont really work on ur truck much do u :jester: :joke: Just be careful when u tighten the bolts back down on the tb, im sure theres a certain torque theyre supposed to be tightend to. I did mine "hand tight", but i guess being a big guy, makes that too much already. I actually cracked my tb around one of the bolt holes, main reason im gettin a V8 TB. And what kind of sparkys, rotor, and cap did u get? and when u say intake, do u mean, air intake or like this? Cuz theres two "intakes" that i know of, and this makes it rreally easy to get to the distributor :jester:

Yea, i've read about not goin nuts with the wrench when tightenin the bolts. thanks for the tip. as far as the plugs, autolite 3923, taylor 8mm wires from summit, and borg & warner select brass cap and rotor which i picked up from the local Kragen.

Missed the intake question. That was the air hat and intake.

yeah i just picked up my 3923s today too, got confused on wether to go with platinum or copper, but copper conducts better (the best) as far as i know, and i think platinum just makes em last longer ???? Im trying to upgrade my whole ignition, i got my MSD blaster coil in yesterday, and im lookin for a good cap/rotor combo to top it off, havent ever heard what "the best" is in that category though. I guess anything brass is good right? oh and also be careful tightening the cap, itll crack real easy on ya too :biggthump

I started doin some research on dodgedakotas.com and some other sites on what is considered the best cap and rotor. I think the majority of the posts i read stated that borg & warner were the most favored, but when looking at the plug wires, it is a toss up between taylor, msd, accel and a few others. This is why i got the cap and rotor. i got the taylor wires from summit because i had a coupon for 20$ off(just as good of reason as any other i guess).

hmmm yeah, i think ima try to get some MSD 8mm wires, i have a silver, black and red them goin on, or will anyway, when its put back together as u can see in the above picture thats its kinda, apart. Plus MSD Coil, MSD 6A, and MSD Wires just sounds better than, MSD Coil, Accel Ignition, and taylor wires. But i guess ima go with the booger and Warn A Brother Cap and rotor then :biggthump

Is ur current cap and rotor stock? I've still got the stock cap, rotor, wires with 85K miles and figured i might get a little bit better gas mpg if i changed everything.

KREWZER
09-23-2005, 06:34 AM
no, theyre stock replacements, but i changed those when my dad gave me the truck, probably about eeeehhhh 25,000 miles ago. How many miles do u have on ur truck, 85K?!. When u change the cap/rotor, sparkys and wires, u should....WILL really feel a difference in acceleration, plus the V8 throttle body, PHEW!!! ur gonna think u got a new truck! Floor it a couple times right after u change em, ull know what i mean :biggthump

Yeah, I just started making mods to my truck about 2 months ago. I've had it for 5 years now and just started takin an interest in some performance upgrades. I didn't really feal any gains from the intake, but the suckin sound it makes when u put ur foot in it actually made my mpg worse. The biggest gain i've felt from the mods done so far was from the underdrive crank pulley. I've got alot more low end throttle response and for 50 bucks it was relatively cheap.

KREWZER
09-23-2005, 06:44 AM
yeah, i was just thinking about a crank pulley too, i dont have AC (anymore) i dont wanna lose any power on my charging, although i dont run ANY kind of electronics, and im actually thinking about gettin rid of my power stearing too, so actualy, i dont even know what the point of just the crank pulley would be :jester: What other mods are u lookin at doing. If u have a dremel and a angle grinder, u could do ur intake manifold.

dave2003
09-23-2005, 06:52 AM
I don't know if u would lose any power or not since u got rid of ur a/c, but again i did quite a bit of reading before i did the mod and for my set-up with just the crank pulley i haven't lost any power or had any charging problems. After i get the tb on, i plan on gettin a better exhaust. I was also lookin at possibly getting some roller rockers. I can't really see any point in upgrading my ignition until i do some more performance mods.

ok, what type of exhaust are u lookin at, not that ur like some people and think bigger is better. And with the RRs, were u gonna keep the stock ratio or go up to 1.7? Jesus im like jumping between three threads trying to keep up...its 1204AM and i have to get up for work at 545...looks like im sleeping at work :biggthump

dave2003
09-23-2005, 07:11 AM
ok...for the exhaust i'm considering the flowmaster 50 series. a couple of friends have the 50 on their daks and i like the sound. i don't want the 40 cause i don't want all the noise. as for the rr's i plan on goin up to 1.7/. I think this is gonna do it for me also. i got to get up for work at about 6 also and i can't sleep at work. So have a good one. later. :biggthump

KREWZER

yup, me 2s, later, we'll continue this tomorrow if ur on :biggthump

I installed the V8 tb today. The tb cable i got with it didn't work. It was too long. No big deal though. I just went to the stealership and got one for $40. After i got the correct cable, the install was easy. The hardest part was getting the V6 throttle cable out of the firewall. By the time i had it out i was cussin mad. Anyway, after i put everything back together i started it and ran it for about 30 secs then turned it off, i did this one more time and then let it run for about a minute. it idled kinda high during the first start up but eventually dropped to normal. I went out for a test drive and man do i like this mod!! The throttle response in the mid to upper range is awesome. :banana2:

told ya u would feel it. Did u change all ur ignition stuff too?

btoh you guys working with the 6 banger? if so, switch up to a set of 1991-1992 exhaust manifolds. do yourself another favor and work that y-pipe too. i did the flowmaster dual 2.25 into a three inch main tube, noticed a little gain in torque. dont think my cam is dialed in right though, truck used to run alot smoother than it is right now. seems to pulsate a little right from idle to about 1200, then smooths out. backfires too. cant wait to get some time to rip out that damn distributor, and dial that shit in, im sick of this.

witht he shaved heads, ecxhaust workm trans and rear worked up, i should be in the high 15's...but im not.

yeah we both got V6s, im not worried about my exhaust right now, im lookin to dump 1500 or more into my truck when i get back from Germany, those 1500 will include some JBA headers.
