I have been browsing this forum and it is just what I was looking for....super!!

Anyway, I just bought a 92 Dakota for $500.00....it's a V6 with a 5 speed and an extended cab. Has 178,000 miles on it and the oil pressure is very poor...nocks a little, too!!

But,the body is in pretty good shape (no rust) and the interior is pretty fair. I can't decide if I should rebuild the V6, or dump it for a 318. I think, from what I have read, that the V8 will drip right in, bolt up to the 5 speed and all I need is the engine and computer from a doner truck...is that correct???

If I do the V8 swap, I intend to make it a full blown project truck, and even thought about making it a Lil Red Express clone, if I can find a step side bed....I thnk they were only made in 92.....

Anyway, any help, suggestions, criticisms, etc., would be greatly and anxiously appreciated.... :help:

welcome to the site! This place is pretty awesome huh? If u like having more cylinders than most ricers have brain cells, do the V8. Im really looking into building my V6. Anyway, hope u enjoy the site!

The Bed you are referring too is no longer made and that company is no longer in business also. Well good luck on your endeavours and modding your Gen 2

W/a V8 in your truck, you'll definately feel the difference. Take it from a '92 owner w/318 4x4 extended cab. Mine may have 214,000 miles on it, but that engine still has some pull!!
Good luck with the swap if you ever do it. Sorry I haven't turned enough wrenches to help you out on the specifics.
btw, '92 was the first year for the magnum engines, V6 & V8. If I remember correctly, the V6 is exactly like the V8, but with 2 cylinder chopped off.
The motors look very identical.
