View Full Version : Defective Liftgate Lock?

I just purchased a used 01 Durango SLT and have found an issue with the liftgate lock not working when using the keychain transmitter.

The liftgate will unlock but when I press the Lock button the other four passenger doors will lock but the liftgate will not. When I check to see if it's locked it opens right up. But if I close it and then press the Lock button again the liftgate will lock. I'm confused at this problem.

Has anyone heard of this happening before?

Denimz,
Actually you have a pretty common problem. But the fix is easy.
Open the rear hatch. On the bottom of the hatch are 2 or 3 screws which hold the interior plastic molding in place. Remove them. The molding is then held in place with plugs that just snap into place. Pull the molding off and you'll see the lock linkage. Just spray it down with some white lithium grease. Then with the key, cycle the lock a few times to get the grease into the linkage.
Put the molding back on and you should be good to go!
Good luck. HTH
