View Full Version : Looking for header/manifold options

I'm in need of a header or exhaust manifold that will fit my hemi i'm putting into my dakota. Only thing I think I've found is the jeep grand cherokee manifolds. I'd rather put some headers on if I can find them for cheap. I need to replace my Y and cat area anyways so a Cat-Up solution will work also. The headers need to dump straight back and down to clear the firewall and possibly all the crap around the engine (same setup as the 4.7L).
Current manifolds on my Hemi:

I only know of three different manifolds made for the Hemi without going custom, truck-like what you have already, Grand Cherokee, and passenger cars-aka 300/Charger/Magnum.
I know the truck 5.7 I have sitting in the back of my 95 won't fit as is. The manifold on the passenger side runs straight into the firewall and the drivers side looks like it will clear but I haven't checked to see if it clears the steering shaft. I was going to get some manifolds from a LX body, as those have a more downward turn on both sides, plus they tuck in a bit tighter.

Brian

What about these? These look like they will fit but they still seem kind of expensive. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=JBA-1964S&N=700+400361+4294908110+4294839967+4294780218+115&autoview=sku

Your current manifolds should work. You just have to get your down pipe to turn down sharply as I did on my 98 Dakota Swap. Check post #81 picture for passenger side.

hmm, wouldn't this end up hurting performance (probably not noticeable)? I've always liked the idea of headers so I'm really leaning towards them and I'd rather put them on now while the engine is out.
You stated in your thread you don't think shorty's would work, what do you think will get in the way? I can't imagine our engine bay is cluttered more then a charger would be... I think I might have to go find a charger R/T to look at.
I'm now leaning towards these: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=BBK-4012&N=700+4294908110+4294839967+4294837040+4294923429+ 4294839039+4294780218+4294908099+4294776434+115&autoview=sku
If they don't fit I think i'll just ebay them.

I thought about the same thing. I decided to just use the cherokee ones for now and get it in. Ill worry about those later if I think I have to room to run em.

Could you post a picture of the passenger side Cherokee exhaust manifold? Is it basically the same as the Ram manifold except it exits with a downward angle rather than straight back?

Here are a few pictures I got from bbk performance for the charger. I'm thinking about getting these. I'll probably make my decision after I slop the engine in for measurements. I already cut my Y pipe and cat off, need a new cat and a better Y pipe sounds good so why not if I can make it work.
