View Full Version : Iratic Idle...

I was just out today rollin' in the truck, and I know that you are supposed to use 4 wheel drive atleast now and then to keep the fluid good. So was rollin' down a backroad, all good, went right in no problems (turn-dial 4x4). But I decided to go into 4-low (never done that before):
Stopped, put it in neutral, turned the dial to 4-low...Gave me a big kick, so I figured it was normal (thats a lot of torque), put it back in drive...Still good perfect idle at about 500rpm. Then I gave it a little, unbelievable power, but it was a choppy clime to 6000rpm. It never sputtered, but it wasn't as smooth as just reving it up.

I know it needs it's 40,000 mile tune-up, but I was wondering if it was normal in that situation. I mean as soon as it leveled off at 5500-6000rpm it was super smooth again (at what? 10mph?), but just getting it there was choppy (did it twice). Other than that it was fine, pure 4 wheel connection, and unbelievable traction...no knocks or ticks, other than the normal 'wine' of the transfer case (or is that the front tires?).

I put it back in two, and it gave me one hell of a ride home (god I love those cams), but I was just wondering.

Thanks for any input.
