Let me ask you guys this. Do you think that the pollution etc. caused by all of us humans has absolutely no effect on the planet as a whole ? I'm not saying either side is right. I just want to know if you think that what we do has absolutely no negative affects on the earth ?

Not starting any arguemnts, just looking for your opinions. If you answer yes, then wouldn't it make sense that we try and limit the damage somewhat ? I agree Al is off the deep end, but shouldn't there be some middle ground someplace ?

I dont believe we do as much as they let on. Fire has been burning the earth since it began and putting "carbon" into the atmosphere. Hell, in the middle ages, forest fires used to burn ALL of Europe's Forrest down because they did not have the technology to fight fires.

I think it all boils down to Al Gore putting the ideas of Carbon pollution on people heads....now look at us...most countries INCLUDING the US have the great new idea of "Carbon Tax"

its a fucking scam for money.

And while America sits here with our government mandates that caused Diesel to become a $1 more than gas (government mandated Low Sulphur Diesel) to our not wanting to "destroy" a lizards fucking view of the desert so we could drill for oil...or mandated ethanol that fucked all of America's farmers and the free trade of corn...China and India are putting more pollutants in the air to make up for what we are not! They are burning every natural resource they can get there hands on. The only thing I can see out of our stupid mandates is when the world goes to shit from it, (if it does)..the US gets to say "wasn't out fault"

thats a comfort...

A very good question. There has to be some effect on the planet from our presence here. I chose to believe it is minimal, but I am not opposed to being good stewards of the planet. Most of the things the GW people propose are not objectionable. I personally think our greatest travesty is the generation of plastic. Once nanocrystalline cellulose technology becomes perfected, we can finally put plastic (and its' landfill waste) to bed.

My big bitch is the scare tactics, oversimplification, and misstatements of the data. The ends do not justify the means.

It's all a scam. In order for those in control to maintain control the masses have to be afraid of something, it's human nature.

In the hundred years or so that we've been burning fossil fuels we haven't even come close the the amount of pollutants that are released in a SINGLE volcanic eruption. The Earth is a VERY complex and constantly changing LIVING thing, we just live here... The Earth will do what it's ALWAYS done, which is change (no matter how much we don't want it to!)

The other thing to consider is the .03*C (or whatever the # is) that the temp has supposedly increased could simply be the fact that our technology has improved and the sensors used to calculate said change are just more sensitive than the old mercury thermometers that they used in the 1800's....

Axis tilt precession (41k years), orbital precession (26k years), and orbital eccentricity (100k years). Three MAJOR contributors to GW (aka: Interglacial Periods).

This is a legitimate question. Believe it or not, there are politics in science. Very little pure research gets done these days under private funding. So...if you want the government big bucks for your pet project, you sight a GW tie in. If you look at the original papers, you'd be surprised to see many conclusions like: "and so, not only will substance XYZ make your dick hard for THREE hours, it will also cut down on Global Warming Emissions.

Hasn't Antartica been gaining Ice?

The Ross ice shelf (the one they always show ice calving into the sea) is losing ice at a significant rate. The problem is that this represents less than 5% of the world's glacial ice deposits. Greenland (majority of ice) is gaining at a high rate. Many other glaciers are building up, as well.

Whenever anyone mentions spotted owls, I'm always reminded of the goofy misled tree-huggers I had to deal with on my remote property. If you wanted a permit to build, you had to schedule an appointment to have "high-desert sage rats" counted on your property. It didn't take people long to figure out that a high count meant no permit (protected habitat).

So...before you called for your appointment, you would spend a week shooting, poisoning, and trapping as many rats as you possibly could. Now, who's interests were being protected? Certainly NOT the high-desert sage rat!

He also boasts he has the farthest north house in all of England. If I remember correctly he said there are 430 meteorological societies in the world. All but 17 say there is no global warming. The other 17 say there is not enough data to say either way. He also mentioned that Mt Pinatubo in 1991 released more green house gases than all of man kinds pollution for all of history. The biggest problems with the data reporting are twofold. First, you are trying to compare data taken by many people and many different types of apparatus, over a 110 year period, accurate to 0.1 degrees C.

The second problem is what is called the "heat island effect." As urban cities grow, so grows their ability to trap heat. A fudge-factor is employed, to normalize the values. In a place like NYC, the fudge-factor is 13.5 degrees. But...they are sure it is 0.3 degrees warmer now!

Finally, if you look at ALL of the data, you discover that they have been "cherry-picking," that is to say they have been plucking out data that confirms their point. If you look at the straight line data from NYC, West Point, and Albany, you discover that the temperatures are "increasing" in NYC, they are stable in WP, and they are falling in Albany.

I was just passing on the bits I remembered from 2-3 years ago. The admiral also said his wife had not shut the heat of at their house in several years. He also mentioned something about the gulf stream not reaching the north sea anymore and Scandinavia having record snowfalls.

Ive never heard the Heat Island effect before. Interesting concept if the name is an indicator.

Everyone cherry picks information.

It's time to pray for global warming, says Flint Journal columnist John Tomlinson

by John Foren | Flint Journal Editor
Monday January 19, 2009, 4:20 AM

If you're wondering why North America is starting to resemble nuclear winter, then you missed the news.

At December's U.N. Global Warming conference in Poznan, Poland, 650 of the world's top climatologists stood up and said man-made global warming is a media generated myth without basis. Said climatologist Dr. David Gee, Chairman of the International Geological Congress, "For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming?"

I asked myself, why would such obviously smart guy say such a ridiculous thing? But it turns out he's right.

The earth's temperature peaked in 1998. It's been falling ever since; it dropped dramatically in 2007 and got worse in 2008, when temperatures touched 1980 levels.

Meanwhile, the University of Illinois' Arctic Climate Research Center released conclusive satellite photos showing that Arctic ice is back to 1979 levels. What's more, measurements of Antarctic ice now show that its accumulation is up 5 percent since 1980.

In other words, during what was supposed to be massive global warming, the biggest chunks of ice on earth grew larger. Just as an aside, do you remember when the hole in the ozone layer was going to melt Antarctica? But don't worry, we're safe now, that was the nineties.

Dr. Kunihiko, Chancellor of Japan's Institute of Science and Technology said this: "CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or the other ... every scientist knows this, but it doesn't pay to say so." Now why would a learned man say such a crazy thing?

This is where the looney left gets lost. Their mantra is atmospheric CO2 levels are escalating and this is unquestionably causing earth's temperature rise. But ask yourself -- if global temperatures are experiencing the biggest sustained drop in decades, while CO2 levels continue to rise -- how can it be true?

Ironically, in spite of being shown false, we must now pray for it. Because a massive study, just released by the Russian Government, contains overwhelming evidence that earth is on the verge of another Ice Age.

Based on core samples from Russia's Vostok Station in Antarctica, we now know earth's atmosphere and temperature for the last 420,000 years. This evidence suggests that the 12,000 years of warmth we call the Holocene period is over.

Apparently, we're headed into an ice age of about 100,000 years -- give or take. As for CO2 levels, core samples show conclusively they follow the earth's temperature rise, not lead it.

It turns out CO2 fluctuations follow the change in sea temperature. As water temperatures rise, oceans release additional dissolved CO2 -- like opening a warm brewsky.

To think, early last year, liberals suggested we spend 45 trillion dollars and give up five million jobs to fix global warming. But there is good news: now that we don't have to spend any of that money, we can give it all to the banks.

Now...get on your trivia hats. Do you know the story of Jeffery Hunter, and the original ST pilot, and WHY that dumbass W. Shatner wound up getting the job? (My mom dated JH once).

Wiki just says Hunter wanted to go in diff directions and turned the studio down twice for Star Trek. ?

We need more guys like this one. It's a good read!

Love it when "Bad Science" and "Global Warming" are debunked. Kudos to this guy. He is dead on right when he says with the existing players in office now, the only thing stopping us from wasting billions or trillions MORE dollars is the current economy and the last two years of record cold events. :clap2:

Kudos Warren and 96BlkDak for the Pike catch. We can't spell out everything for the kiddies here. Sometimes it is good enough to stop with a heady reference even if you are the only one that gets it.

Trevor, Warren happens to know a little bit about this stuff from a past life. Just a little mind you. :jester:
