codes and programmer

hey guys 2 ?'s
1) my boy just bought a 99r/t had him try to check his codes but wouldn't work is there any difference on 99 it works on my 02 v6

2) he is getting a programmer for his will it work on my v6 also or do i have to get one just for my v6

well, if ya is refering to the key trick to check codes, no it wont. gotta get a actual scanner to do that.

i doubt the programmer will work due to the change in programming that DCX did around the `00 model years. you can try. the box and instructions for the unit will/should tell what years its good for.

wouldnt matter anyway cuz the only way you could use the programmer is if your boy puts his back to it stock form and then you use it. cuz the programmer stores the stock settings and VIN number wont reprogram again until the stock settings were put back on the first vehicle.
