so a KJ sport comes with 4.10 gears
but the KJ Renegade comes with 3.55 gears
i never really understood gearing... can someone explain bigger/smaller... what gears are good, etc

4.10's are better than 3.55's no matter what. There's no comparison between the two.

Gears make a multiplier affect. If you have 4.10's, for every turn of the driveshaft, ur axle spins 4.10 times. Steaper gears net greater accceleration, but lower top speed and higher RPM's on the freeway.

so the Renegade(3.55) is faster on the freeway, but the Sport(4.10) has better acceleration
and how does this relate to offroading?

4.10's are much better than 3.55's for offroading.....especially if you get bigger tires.

Pretty much, and has yella said, steaper gears are better for off roading. Larger tires reduce the multiplication affect, so steaper gears will counter act that. Also when crawling and such, being able to get up and go is important, unless you like ur engine bogging down.

I try :) Hey how do you like the Koda/Thunderform setup? Thinking about going that route.

I like it a lot. It's just about the perfect amount of bass I'm into now. Still hits nicely loud, while still hitting all the low notes I need to hear. If took a bit of "customizing" to make the Kodas fit, but it sounds perfect and would go with the same setup again if I had to.

Gears make a multiplier affect. If you have 4.10's, for every turn of the driveshaft, ur axle spins 4.10 times. Not to be a dick and that, but it's the opposite that takes place. The driveshaft revolves 4.1 times to the tires one revolution. If your case was true, could you imagine your speed when your tranny goes into one-to-one mode.

i thought i understood it, but this guy came and screwed me all up...

What Scojo was trying to say, is that with 3.55 gears, your driveshaft will spin 3.55 times for every turn it makes the tires spin 1 time. With 4.10 gears, the driveshaft will spin 4.10 times for every time the tires spin 1 time. Hope that helps a bit...

Yes, if your into offroading, you want to go with either 4.10's or 4.56's :biggthump

Well, a higher numerical number yes, but it's actually a lower gear, because of the ratio. A "higher" gear would be like a 3.55 or a 3.42 compared to a 4.10 or a 4.56 being a "lower" gear. ;)
