Got pulled over speeding today.
The first day AFTER I get my truck back from being in the body shop for 2 1/2 weeks! :argue::argue:
54 in a 35...but some of that is my tire size being different than factory and not having my speedometer calibrated.
I was still speeding either way...
In other news...my front door, cab, front right fender and bottom of the bed was repainted and cleared. looks great haha...
You better get a good lawyer. They can take your license for 15 over.

I would've explained to the Officer the truck just came out of the body shop from an accident and maybe something was knocked out still.
Depends on the state for the licence.

God I hope I don't lose my license.
I'm looking to get it reduced in every way possible. I plan on taking a driving class...or anything really. I might use my PJC.
Might be the best thing, Sit down and talk to the lawyer and let him know about the accident, if the tires are different diamter than factory anything he can use to plead improper equipment. You will probally get it reduced after you take it to a dealer and show proof of it being repaired.

15 over and they take your license? is that only for slower speed limits (ie 35) or is that across the board?
Fluffy

It should be entitled Reckless Driving and I believe it's handled differently from state-to-state.

I was talking with one of my friends today who was pulled for doing 18 over...or 53 in a 35.
The very next day after the speeding ticket was given, he went to the courthouse in Raleigh...talked to the Magistrate and told him the reason he was speeding was because he was late for his Internship 4th period. The Magistrate lowered his ticket to a 9mph over because he came in the day after the incident and because it was school-related.
I'm hoping for an improper equipment problem. I can get it calibrated... I just really can't lose my license...nor did I know I was speeding THAT much over.
edit: hell...any reduction i'll take. I just honestly didn't know i was speeding that much over. I was wondering why the cop was pulling me over when my speedometer read 42mph...
Nope in the state of NC if you go over 15 over they take your license. That's what the lawyer told me first time I got one. I got pulled for a 63 in a 45. Since it was my first ticked he got it reduced to 54.

I'm clean...until this.

Just explain about your accident and the part being off calibration. Also, mention it's your first offense and if you could take the fine without points. My GF was caught doing 70 in a 45, the highway ended and hit a main road.. stupid build, but anyways... she had a good record and asked that. Go away with a fine and no points.
Make sure you mention that to the lawyer. I'm sure he can get ya dropped.

Up here at 50 km (about 30 mph) over they cite it as street racing, take your licence, plus impound your car for a week - lots of young guys up here having to go home and explain where daddies new Volvo went.........

Must be Toronto if young guys are driving Volvo's. :stirthepo

Yeah I'm probably going to the court house tomorrow morning to talk to this magistrate and see about getting a reduced fine...or SOMETHING. I'll just try to work with them...see what I can do.
I've never done anything against the law...I made a honest mistake about the speedometer being off...
I'm hoping that the fact i'm a first offense...plus having improper equipment gets me off the hook...or a reduced sentence.
Edit: My court date is in January...Fine is for $171... :(

here in philly, if you go to traffic court, plead your case, and pay the ticket in advance, they dont add points.
and the one time, i should have been locked up. was pulled over for 99 in a 45. and that was in my ram. i told the cop i wasnt signing shit, and that his thing he used was dead wrong. no way in that short of a distance could i have gone 99. at best..i was doing 70-75. fought it, think i got 2 points for it though. but i kept my license, and the truck.

You got lucky. I'm not sure in your state, but not signing it can put you in a situation to be arrested on site.

I'll update this tomorrow after I see the Magistrate.
God...thanks B2 for bringing it to my attention that I could lose my license for 15 over...I completely forgot about that.
If I have to use my PJC to not lose my license...then I hate to say it, and I would love to save it for more serious shit...but honestly, i would use it.

Might want to rephrase that as they CAN site you for street racing, and all the other stuff, but it's up to officer discretion. There was a long thread about this when the law was passed. I've read most of the new law.

Factory is apparently 225/70/15, I'm running 275/65R17's...
Apparently when the speedometer reads 65mph, I'm really doing about 74mph.
I had my neighbor go side by side with me and my speedometer said 41-42mph was 50ish mph in their car.

According to this calulator your speedometer is 8 mph slow.

Yeah I know...its between 8-10mph off.
I'm still speeding either way...but i'm just hoping I can get it reduced so that its ATLEAST less that 15mph...

If you back out the 8mph from the 54 mph, then you were still doing 46 in a 35 which will still get you points and a fine. At a time like this, it's best to keep a few things to yourself and not tell them everything you know.

That might be so...but from what I was told today...we still have one. Thats what the cop told me that I could do in response to this ticket.
I plan on just telling the magistrate tomorrow that My tires are different than what was offered factory, therefore allowing the speedometer to read a different speed...which in-turn resulted in my receiving of a speeding ticket.
I'm sticking to that...and I'm also saying its my first offense!
Hope what I said works.

You are correct in the "they CAN site you" part of it, but they seem to have been nailing people hard with it..... I read it in the paper on a weekly basis about someone getting nailed for street racing........

Holy crap...I got a speeding ticket recently for $220.50 CAD for doing 78 in a 60 (km/h) equivalent to 48 in a 37 mph. That's only 11mph over. Granted i dont get any points because it was a radar van, not a cop.

NC is a different story. 15mph over and they can take you license for 30 days but most of the time they will take a lesser plea to get it below. Just depends on how big of a dick you were to the officer.

Being a law student, that sounds like a horrible excuse. If you tell them that, you are admitting to knowing about the problem, therefore they will give you nothing considering you should have been aware of it to start with.
Also remember, your speedo isn't always off 8MPH, it will go up exponentially, but also don't rely on those calculators, because when I got pulled over my speedo was reading 75, and I got hit at 86, when at 70 it was supposed to read only about 73.

Well...I couldn't make it to the court house today...I'm going first thing Monday morning. I had classes that I really couldn't miss.
I talked to a bunch of rednecks at my school who often throw huge tires on their trucks, creating a speedometer problem. Some have been pulled for 20+ over in a city speed(35mph). 99% of them got their speed reduced to 9 over for having 'Improper Equipment'.

signing it show guilt too. i know i wasnt going as fast as what he said, so i wasnt signing shit attesting to it either.
fuck that cop. he was a fucking douchebag anyways. getting all loud with me and shit right off the bat.
there were other cops i had passed, and when i passed them, i was doing just a tad over 50 IIRC. this one was a little over a block away (the one that stopped me). so how is it in 500feet, in a 5000lb truck, i could get to 99mph that fast...and no it wasnt on a decline, no tailwing, no NOZ, no blower on the motor..no wth injections,,non of that shit...
its called bullshit, and they wanted to make thier quota.

Signing a ticket is not an admittance of guilt. All you are doing when you sign the ticket is basically just promising you will appear on your court date. You do NOT have to sign a ticket to make it valid. The ticket means just as much if you don't sign it as if you did, which is why parking tickets are valid even though you don't sign them.

dont even get me started as to what happened to me and a cop in my teal dakota one night on my way to work....boy was he a joke. held me up for 25 minutes, made me late...never did hand me a ticket that "he thought i should get".... i yelled back at him, thanks for the make believe ticket..what is this training night? fucker wasnt even behind me, he was on the service lanes (northbound rt. 1 has 6 lanes split by a meadian), he was stuck IN TRAFFIC at cottman ave....im in the express lanes which dip under cottman ave, and bypasses the light. copper said he had to do over 100 to catch me...i said, well, i guess so, you were stick in traffic...he said, no i wasnt i was behind you the whole time...i said, yea ok, then why did i see you cross over right behind me as i passed this crossovver jusction right behind us then...he said, well uhh umm, you were still speeding...im like yea whatever, i was going 50 at best (posted speed after cottman ave is 45)...well, you were still speeding...(never mind the masses around me i get passed all the damn time..this just so happened to be the time when i had all but ONE FREAKING CAR near me...but anyways, all he did was threaten, and then pulled off.
