i recently bought a 2002 dodge dakota and the rear diff is making werid noises its like a rattleing noise when you put it into gear and if you take off to fast it clunks could it be that its haules to much whegiht oh and the person bought it off of put it in drive while still rolling backwards could that cause it to

no they didnt but i do know that its not the origanl diff they put there boat in the water with it and water got in the breather tube and filled the diff so dodge replaced it

Could be a bearing going out. check the diff fluid level

bearing, u-joint, or not properly shimmed when installed. The clunking under accel. is often a sign of u-joint ready to go, but it could easily be any of those other items.

im thinking u-joint cause there the origanl ones
