Well I finally uploaded pics of the remote turbo I put in the Dakota. The 3.9 really wakes up at about 3500 rpm and pulls with ease thru 6500! I am keeping it at about 7 lbs of boost as to not blow the bottom end out of it. I will got out and take underhood pics tomorrow when it stops raining (just pictures a 360z Air intake hat with a bunch of pipes running down between the headers and a BOV)

You lucky bastard, :joke: damn i want that sts kit. Of course they make em for the tacomas but oh no not the daks. Guess the tacomas do need help getting out of their own way but come on! We have mid sized pickups with nice v8's! throw us a bone here STS!

Im talking about their pre tuned kits like they have for the cars on their site. I dont think i would have the time or the tools to "make it work" Thats cool though that you could get it done. Whats your truck pull the 1/4?

Did it come with the ugly Turbo Mounting Flange?

What mounts the pipe to the truck?

Is there addition mounts to support the weight of the turbo?

What about tuning? I've got a buddy who loves toying with things like this, and he builds custom headers... But all I want is a remote mount to help with the mid-top end power...

What will I blow up on a STOCK truck with like 5 PSi?

??? Maybe low 15s to high 14s (I will still get beat by most R/T's, but that is not why I built this setup)

Did it come with the ugly Turbo Mounting Flange?
No, I had to cut their flange off and redo it, my welder is not the best (neither are my welding skills)

What mounts the pipe to the truck?
They look basically like muffler hangers

Is there addition mounts to support the weight of the turbo?
See above

I had my Superchips reflashed and I installed an MSD 6BTM Box with timing retard as boost rises

Your checkbook :jester:
Actually, I have not run mine hard enough to find out (and hope not to)

just wondering how much a kit like that is?

The STS unit (for the Camaro) was about 3900 and I spent another 500 making it work. Not that I have done it I see that it can be built via ebay for about $1500, lots of tubes, a t3 or t4 turbo, gaskets, aux oil pump, welder, and lots of planning.

Interesting set up. :biggthump Do you loose a lot of boost through the piping to the front?

Not really (6-7 lbs), there is some Lag (like every other turbo out there) but I did not build a drag truck so I am happy. 4 grand to sound cool ~lol

my only concern is what happens when you hit water with the intake for the turbo under the truck? I mean will heavy rain park the truck?

I live in Washington state where it see,s to rain every day! Just keep your foot out of it and you will be fine. As long as it is not spinning at 300 zillion rpm it is not getting hot. Therefore it will not crack the housing.

Any chance we can get an audio file of that sucker (errr blower) spooling up? Im curious as hell as to what a 3.9 sounds like on boost.

Nah, Turbo's don't crack from H20... The Turbo on my Cummins had been spoolin 38 Lbs of boost all day while I was out muddin in the truck, it never cracked, and that whole engine bay was COVERED in crap (I forgot how messy mudding was) I'm not talking Georgia gumbo mud, I am talking like 80% water 20% dirt that was like 4 ft deep (Go through a LONG pit Hualling ass.. Oooo Video Time!!)

I was not talking about water cracking it, I was thinking of sucking water in. I am thinking that could be an issue if you live in a place the roads seem to flood after every heavy rain and the truck is your DD.

Mine is my DD, and I live in Washington state. Can't get any wetter than that :biggthump

What are the specs on that turbo? You said you took an existing STS kit and made it work, which kit did you build from? I'm thinking about undertaking this myself.

That is pretty interesting!! I have been playing with Td's for qute awhile now and I think I can build up a unit like this one.

Do you have any pics of the exhuast side of the turbo and how it exits the truck?

I see its near the rear of the truck, did you find any issues in mounting it back there. Seems like quite a haul for the air.

Very interesting though. Making the wheels turn now. LOL. Any other pics you have are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Trying to bring this post back from the dead! I am now aquiring the parts needed to do my turbo install and have a couple questions.

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. So far, I bought my turbo, (T3/T4) 57 trim w/ .48Ar and a 5 degree clip. I have my inj, (mustang) and had the turbo flange made up for this turbo. What I need to know is:

Anyone recal our computers or chip them?

What kind of aux. oil pump do I need and where to find it

In these pics, where can I find the blue part that goes onto the TB

whats the max boost the 3.9L can hold?

Thats about it riught now, but I'm sure I'll have more later. I can't wait to get this started. With the other mods I plan on doing by spring, I hope to at least get this truck into the 13's.

Socal, B&G Chrysler and several other places do PCM reflashes...dont know about the oil pump thing, the "blue thing" that goes onto the TB is called a "Air Hat" and u can buy several types, K&N, Vortech, ATI, and that one which would be a 360Intakez air hat. The max boost thing, im not so sure about, most people will say 7-9 even 10lbs. All depends on how well ur tuned.
