I was just wondering what Octane I should run in my 2000 5.9L Durango (stock engine)?
A bit late to wonder in 2005, but better late then never. I’ve always run 93/94 in all my cars, for no other reason than an uneducated perception that more is better.

However, I just read in my owner’s manual (go figure) that they recommend 87 and specifically DO NOT recommend anything higher. :spank:
I’d be interested in anyone’s thoughts.

Thanks

The octane your engine needs basically goes off of your compression and the way the swirl design of the combustion chamber is. If your truck does not "ping" on 87 octane you do not need to go any higher. Higher octane fuels burn slower and tend to post-combust if the octane is to high for your specific engine. which can also destroy your catalytic converter.
