I recently bought an 89' Dakota Sport v6, 3.9 L, 4x4. The truck has transmission problems: It loses reverse after it warms up, and it only operates in low gears. I called a scrap yard, and bought a new transmission...I gave them all of my info on the truck, they pulled it, and I went and picked it up. When we went to put it in we noticed some major differences in the plugs. The trans that is in the truck has a plug on the side, and top...there are 2 wires in the side plug, and 3 in the top. The trans I have to replace it has a plug in the side, and the front....there are 2 wires in the side plug, and 1 in the front. I believe the trans will bolt up okay, but will not shift correctly if the wires are not the same. I have spoken to a few people about it, and I don't get very much feedback. Also there are different #'s on the trans itself...the one in the truck is a 179 - something....I cannot make it out, and the replacement is a 115 - 2. Can someone possibly shed light on my situation, it would be a great help to have some info. Regards.

dude just go to a pro and have it rebuilt cause no offense but even professionals i have talked to have trouble putting in those transmissions. my husbands truck is an 89 dakota and he has put 3 in it already; one in it himself(hes a mechanic)and 2 by pros. its not only your truck that has problems with transmissions the guy at the trans shop said that he puts more transmissions in dodge trucks than any other vehicle, and the other guy wouldnt even touch it cause he couldnt guarantee the job cause the transmissions are so sucky to begin with. it will cost alot but in the end it will save you time and sanity lol:sorry:
