i just got 12 qts of 10w40 instead of 10w30 of royal purple synthetic off ebay and dont really wanna send it back. would it hurt anything usin the 40 weight for an oil change or two?

I run 10w40 from june-sept. every year.

you should have no problem with 10w40 especially with summer comming on. using a lighter weight oil like 10w30 or even 5w30 if you live somewhere where it gets COLD during the winter:) It is better for you trucks engine because it starts flowing in the cold sooner than heavier weight oils, because poor oil flow can lead to problems even if it is only for a couple of miles until you engine temp is up to normal.

To the other extreme if you live in hot climates a heavier weight oil might want to be used. 10w40 is a "safe" weight that the mfg recomends to use for all climates. if you have hot weather where you live or you do alot of towing you would be better served with heavier oil.

ok thanx, up here in new england ill do that, in the heat run the 40 weight.
