to my knowledge the Dak & Dur sales have been way down since the the generation change. so why would they build a high performance version of somthing that doesn't sell. my $.02

Well they sell an SRT-8 Jeep? and that isn't even a Dodge! With an engine like a big Hemi it would be at home in a Dodge more than a Jeep right?
At least this is what I think.

The Jeep GC outsells the Durango by 10 to 1 and that's by big margin. It wouldn't be cost effective for Chrysler to produce such a vehicle. The SRT group is miracle workers but the aren't that great. Now if the Durango was putting up the numbers like the GC then I would say build it.

Why does it out sell the Durango? It is a better vehicle.

True, but if I could start with 400 hp vs 300 hp it would be a lot more fun.
I think the Durango looks better than the Jeep also!:drive:

The idiots that Chrysler has designing for them has put the entire organization in the toliet! Everything they produce is "cookie cutter design". Nothing, with the exception of the new Challenger, has it's own personallity anymore. When it comes to the Dakotas and Durangos, their sales started down in '04 when the redesigned the Durango and they were stupid enough to follow suit with the Dakota in '05. The sharpe, chiseled body lines and piss poor quality has killed sales and they were too damn stupid to realize it. As long as I can get parts for my truck, I could care less what happens to Chrysler because they sealed their own fate!

Really? I like the new bodies better than the older ones. I thought they were a lot more popular than the previous.

I use to work for DiamlerChrysler and while I was there became somewhat buisness friends with Dan Knott the former Director over the SRT Division.
I had wrote him an email once concerning the good performance of my Durango (Hemi 2wd) and asked him if they had looked into doing an SRT Durango, or atleast start offering more performance mods for them.
At the time, SRT had already started so many projects that for the amount of resources they had they could not take on any more. Then as stated above the sales started dropping off, and the decision to close Newark came so it pretty much was a mute point.

Its more like 2 to 1?
In 2006,
Jeep Grand Cherokee sold (139,148).
The Dodge Durango sold (70,606) units in 2006, a decrease of 38.8 percent compared to the previous year.
