Gas price biatch forum. We're as helpless as a turtle lying on his back, but hey... My Dak's commercial mileage is 29K/year, so every gas buck is big. I've been the 4-banger route before; no thanks. I'll sink or swim with my 20 mpg RC.
Today in Knoxville: $2.93/87 octane. $2.59/87 one month ago.

Hey dude your paying good prices where you are!!!! Here in Los Angeles I'm paying currently $3.20/gallon. Heck with the brand get gas as cheap as you can. It's going up fast so expect prices in the mid $3.50 range by Christmas.
You might consider getting that 4 banger back.

Adding 20 cents/gallon in 4 days, we'll catch up :funny: The "4 banger" was a Dodge mini van with 100HP that got 22 mpg, only 2 more than my V-8 Dak. 5-speed manual on both vehicles. East Tennessee hills and mountains overwork little motors...unless your payload=zero.

There's a station around here that doesn't even add Ethanol, and sometimes has water/shit in the tank. It's the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. I'd rather pay 20cents more a gallon than what it costs to replace a motor.

3.05 for 87....
prices are finally going up now due to heating costs associated with the unusually warm oct. for most of the country.........they'll level off within another dime or so until after the first of the year(end of the fiscal quarter for the conspiracy crowd)...then you can expect prices to go up an additional 75-85cents/gal....basically up an entire dollar from now til spring....and once it does, don't expect it to ever get back down bellow 3.60-75..
bookmark this thread and come back in six months to see how scary correct this is. hopefully i'm wrong.

Don't know where you found that, but everything I looked up yesterday and today says it is about 1.07 to 1.10 the other way. Yes, Martha, the Canadian Dollar IS worth more than the US Dollar.
I live very close to the border, and we are already seeing the tourists coming down. Actually have a few families that will be moving to town here because they can live here cheaper now. And the businesses around here are laughing because before they wouldn't take Canadian coins, but now when they take them, they are making money.

Filled up the Jeep on Saturday and paid $2.87 a gal. Filled up the truck today and it was up to $2.94 a gal. Thats for the cheap stuff. If you can call any of this cheap anymore. I had a quarter tank of gas left when I filled up the truck. It took 18 gallons and cost me 53.40. I remember in 99 or 2000 when I was paying $0.99 a gallon for the good stuff. This fuckin sucks. For the most part I try not to look at the price. I need it so I just pump it pay and leave. If I think about it too much it pisses me off. Its not really gonna help so why bother. Only thing I keep holding onto is that I have yet to ever pay $3.00 a gal. I'm sure that streak will end soon enough.

3.21/gal for gasoline (87 octane) and diesel is $3.54/gal for low sulfur and $3.68/gal for Ultra Low Sulfur. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
"Funny" thing is, I can remember plain as day riding in the car with my dad around 1973 or so (I was 8 or 9 years old) and he was all upset because the sign at the gas station showed $.40/gallon! When I was in high school we all got pissed because it went up to $1.01 (around 1981-1982). Sounds cheap, but don't forget the average yearly income was a whole lot lower then too. That isn't meant to sound like I'm defending the prices of gas now, I think they suck bad. Although, if the price went up the same percentage as everything else has in the last 50 years gas would be close to $8.00/gallon. I'm so glad my new job is less than a mile from home!

Filled 'er up this morning. $3.09/gallon is the going rate around here (give or take a cent or two). Last week it was under $3.00 ($2.99/gal) but only for one day. I'm going to piss you younger guys off now. When I was in high school, gas was somewhere between 89 and 99 cents a gallon (got my licence in 1980). Of course, I made minimum wage then also which was $2.65/hr so gas still seemed expensive to us. I also remember sitting in the passenger seat and my dad looking up and seeing that gas was up to 40 cents/gal and commenting that the price was getting ridiculous (around 1972 or 1973 I think). At least we can get gas anytime, any day and wherever we want these days. I remember sitting in the back seat while we waited in line to get gas on our alloted day (odds and evens), then could only get a certain amount as it was rationed. Damn Arab's and OPEC oil embargo's anyways.
I'm not saying I like to pay $3.09/gal for gasoline, but if you look at the price in 1925 (about 23 cents a gallon) and increased the price the same percentage as everything else it would be roughly $8.00/gal now. Actually, at 23 cents a gallon, when the average yearly income was something like $1,200 a year, gas is technically cheaper now than it used to be. Sometimes you have to try and see the bright side of things that suck.

Tack on another .20 cents per liter for 94 octane for the RT crowd. And its just april. By mid summer, $1.50/liter is expected for regular, making 94 a whopping $1.70/liter. I heard Hawaii was 5.00 a gallon???

Jumped 35 cents overnight here. Why? Some douchewad CEO probably needed a new solid gold shitter. Last month, diesel jumped almost $1 a gallon to $4.30 in less than a week. Now. Explain to me, because I get told I'm stupid whenever I bring this up.. If you get 5 times as much diesel out of a barrel of oil as you do gasoline, (since diesel is a BYPRODUCT of the refining process), how in the name of Zeus' BUTTHOLE can it be almost $1 more expensive than premium unleaded? From what I understand, the ultra low sulfur processing adds a few cents a gallon, as do the taxes. But the cost of the sulfur processing and the taxes didn't go up. Sooooooo what gives?
WHY are we not opening price gouging investigations?? And don't give me the bullshit "Because Bush is an oil guy" line from the left, because it's not true and I'm sick of hearing it. Well, a gallon of 87 octane gasoline will cost you $3.44 at pretty much every station around here (give or take a couple cents). Diesel is $4.31 per gallon with Premium diesel going for $4.55/gal. Just got the word at work that the price per liter (Audi/VW dealer, everything's done in metric) of conventional oil is going up almost $1.00 while the synthetic is staying the same.
There's a station a few blocks from my house that sells 110 octane racing fuel (off-road only/not road taxed) is $6.50 a gallon now. For reference, in Wisconsin the total for federal and state tax per gallon of gasoline is 49.8 cents a gallon, which means the government makes more per gallon than the oil company does yet they (the gov't) seem to never mention that little fact, do they?!
I feel extremely lucky to live so close to work these days. Filled the Dakota up last Friday evening, when I got home tonight the trip odometer showed a grand total of 27 miles since fill up. I can only imagine what an impact the fuel prices have on those that have to commute miles and miles to work or school everyday (especially to a student or someone just starting out in their chosen carreer).
Not meaning to piss anyone off but, I still remember sitting in the passenger seat and hearing my dad (after looking up at the gas price sign) and seeming kind of irritated as he said "gas went up again, now it's 40 cents a gallon". I was around 9 or 10 years old and the time was the '73-'74 oil embargo by OPEC. Just think, it's only gone up by $3.00/gallon in the last 30 odd years. Could have been worse I suppose. If it went up the same percentage as the price of everything else it would be like $9.00 a gallon by now. Yes I know, that doesn't help any does it?

Yep, a couple weeks ago I went to the Chicago suburbs for Audi training and they gave me a VW Passat to drive (1.8T/auto) and the instant mpg display showed around 36mpg@55mph, 33@65mph. In the SLOW lane of I90 near Chicago I was going 85mph to stay with traffic (those people are freakin' nuts!) and it showed 21mpg@85mph. So, to go an additional 20 mph over 65 dropped economy by 12mpg. A 1.8T takes premium fuel on top of all that. I always wonder when you see someone with a large SUV pulling a camper and going 80 mph, then they complain about gas prices. Go figure.

Ill add a spin nobody has thought of...They raised the minimum wage not too long ago and everything has gone up because of it. $1.00 menu items at the golden arches, all groceries, etc...It has caused the cost of labor to go up. and those with higher paying jobs didn't benefit from a raise because of it.
Now, if you are talking about diesel, you have to factor in the cost of making the fuel burn cleaner with decreased amounts of sulfur and other chemicals.
Recent jumps in price are attributed to hurrican season being here.
If the federal government were to allow us to build a few new refineries, cost would drop per gallon of fuel...we haven't had a new one built in the last 30 years due to environemental concerns.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper has sent subpoenas to seven gasoline retailers who reportedly charged as much as $7.32 a gallon for regular fuel last week.
Cooper told a news conference Monday afternoon that more subpoenas are being prepared and that retailers will have 10 days to explain why their prices went so high.
The seven targeted in the first round of subpoenas were cited for charging more than $5.49 a gallon for fuel. Subpoenas went to gas stations in Anson, Ashe, Cherokee, Guilford, Montgomery, Stanly and Transylvania counties.

Heres one excuse :jerkit::
When crude oil prices were at their peak a month ago, oil producers were raking in money, but prices were so high that gas stations couldn't pass along the full cost, said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for the Oil Price Information Service.
The average mark-up for retailers nationwide was 11 cents per gallon, and of that 11 cents, as much as 5 to 8 cents went to credit card companies for processing costs, Kloza said.
Now the station owners are keeping prices from falling to make a profit, he said.
