I think the Body Control Module in my Durango is going bad. Can somebody please tell me what the BCM controls. My D is doing some crazy electrical things and I think that it's my problem but i'm not sure. So any help would greatly be appr.

Mine was bad right when I bought my truck. Luckily the dealer replaced it for me on the spot for free. It seriously made it so my alarm didn't work and lights would flicker. I think my door locks even went crazy for a bit. Is that sorta what you're having happen?

Yeah sometimes my interior lights get real dim and I have to smack the dash where the BCM sits. Then they brighten back up then I hit it again they go dim again. Sometimes when I got my high beams on and cut them off to go back to low beam my headlight lights go completey out. Plus my blower intermits to. The only things is I have to pay for the part. But luckly I get a discount from the dodge dealership. So instead of 300 dollars it only 200 dollars. My friend at the dodge dealership said that they keep them instock for the dakotas. Cause I guess they have alot of problems with them. From what they told me it's like the computer that controls the engines. But the Body Control Module controls interior and exterior things like lights interior and exterior, door lock, alarm, radio, blower motor, and some of the guages. Correct me if I wrong please but that's what the Dodge Dealership told me. Thank for the info supradakotaman. I hate to say it but the D is down hard now. Cause I still got to get tires and do a full tune up including shocks and the O2 sensor. Just pick up my window today where they broke into the D and stoled the stero system. MY BABY IS BROKE NNNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dammit:

Well I'd guess that the dealership is right about that, since when the bcm fails those components seem to be the only affected ones. My dakota's driving characteristics didn't really alter much with the faulty bcm in. Anyways, sorry to hear about your luck, hopefully you'll get it all back together nicely shortly. I guess it could be worse, you could not have a car all 4 weeks of winter break while your only car is down with a blown headgasket and spend those weeks slaving away to get the needed parts topping it off with putting the head back on new year's eve at 11:59 pm. Yep that was me with my supra in 03...Happy New Year...it starts finally! woot! heh heh i dunno if those were good memories or bad, i just prefer to call it an "experience." Good luck man, things will work out.

Oh yeah, Bilstein shocks are amazing and not too pricey at around 65 bucks a corner.

I guess we can both be happy that we didn't have to pay somebody to do it. It doesn't bother the engine I just went and sat in my D while it was running. I try to start it once a week. I felt like a little kid waiting for my dog to come home while I was sitting in my truck listen to it idle. I work at Advance Auto parts so I'm going to get some sense satrac shocks. But thanks for the info. I just want my D BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update I found out that the Body Control Module was bad. I sent in to directauto.com and they fixed it. They are a whole lot cheap then what the dealership wants for a new one. I paid 143 dollars plus 26 dollars shipping. They warrany it for one year and unlimited mileage. Thats better then the dealerships warranty one year 12000 miles. I thought it was still bad but found out that the metal part of the dash is part of the ground also. So everything is working now all I have to do is get an alinement done and The "D" will be good. I the happinest man in the world. Still don't have no stero system though. But at least I can drive The "D"

I think my door locks even went crazy for a bit. Is that sorta what you're having happen? My door locks are going crazy sporadically. They'll just repeatedly unlock whenever they feel like it, even the truck is off. The last time I towed my bike to the track (from DC to Road Atlanta) it did it the entire trip. When I stayed over at UNC-Chapel Hill I had to disconnect my battery just to guarantee my own truck wouldn't bend me over by letting robbers into an unlocked truck.

Should I assume this is probably the BCM and tell my dealership? I have an '03 with only 31k miles on it so this is probably still covered under warranty, right?
