Steering Wheel Stero Controls

I own a 2001 Durango with steering wheel stereo controls that have stopped functioning. I took it to a stereo repair shop and they said that it is not the stereo unit, it is in the steering wheel itself.
Does anyone have any information that can help me before I go to the dealer and drop some heavy coin?
