well i cant really just click one, i use different brands of synthetics for different things. Plus I switch off to different kinds for some things. I've got Mobil 1 for the motor, I just regular mopar atf +4 (which is supposed to be at least partially synthetic) in the trans right now, Royal purple in the rear end, and valvoline in the brake fluid.

Before I get reprimanded :argue: for posting this ... let me state:
_ USE WHATEVER BRAND SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL YOU WANT _
_ JUST MAKE CERTAIN IT IS A TRUE SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL _
There is always debate regarding Brand "X" vs. Brand "Y", and I am not here to debate that issue.
I just want to mention that neither Castrol Syntec or Pennzoil Platinum are True Synthetic Motor Oils.
They are both Hydro-Cracked Crude Oil Based (Pretend Synthetics) - NOT true synthetic oils.
THE SYNTHETIC DIFFERENCE --- IN A NUTSHELL
Natural Gas is the base component of 100% True Synthetic Lubricants.
Crude Oil is the base component of all Non-Synthetic motor oils.
Natural Gas vs. Crude Oil as a Base Oil
SYNTHETIC OILS - Natural Gas (Methane) is the base component of a 100% TRUE Synthetic Oil.
It is a simple hydrocarbon made up of one carbon atom and four hydrogen atoms: CH4.
A SIMPLE and PURE base which provides "sameness" and SUPERIOR PREDETERMINED PERFORMANCE.
NON-SYNTHETIC MOTOR OILS - Crude Oil (a COMPLEX MIXTURE of carbons) contains hundreds
of different types of hydrocarbons all mixed together with different performance characteristics.
Simply put: Natural Gas is much like marbles and Crude Oil is much like rocks.
HYDROCRACKED "fake" SYNTHETIC - Crude oil put through a "cracking" process to break down
large molecules into smaller molecules - creating a "pretend" or "fake" synthetic that does not offer
the performance characteristics of a TRUE synthetic.
Additional Information: Non-Synthetic Lubricants vs. Synthetic Lubricants (http://www.dakota-durango.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12635)(link)
SYNTHETIC LUBRICANTS ARE MADE FROM LIQUID NATURAL GAS (LNG)
(abundant in the USA) --- and NOT processed from imported crude oil.

On BITOG (Bob is the Oil Guy) forums, I heard none of them are true synthetics. However, PP is made with at least some Group IV, PAO based. All of them include a good portion of Group III content. We can all thank Castrol for this http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=944578&an=0&page=0#Post944578
Is Amsoil 100% PAO Group IV based?
From Amsoil's website: The "Genuine Synthetic PAO Formulated" designation displayed on AMSOIL packaging indicates that the oils are formulated with Polyalphaolefin (PAO) synthetic base stocks.
Formulated with PAO and...?

Anyone heard any rumor that M1 is not a PAO base? I been hearing it all over the shop.Hellfire,
It all started after Hurricane Katrina when Exxon/Mobil's refineries were damaged. Mobil1 began to substiture cheaper "hydrocracked Group III crude oil" for their formerly more expensive "natural gas Group IV PAO" based motor oils.
Mobil1 realized that their customers didn't really care what was in the bottle - only that Mobil1 was on the label. BOTTOM LINE: The company did NOT witness a deterioration in market share and saw a HUGE boost to the bottom line (profits).
PROBLEM - Mobil1 is still charging Group IV PAO Synthetic prices for a Group III "hydrocracked crude oil" - and did not pass the savings on to consumers. Shame on them.
From what I have read, Mobil1 5w-30 and 10w-30 are NOT Group IV PAO true synthetic based oils. I believe some of their higher viscosities are still PAO (for now) - but how do you trust them?
