Mopars at the Strip
April 1-3, 2005
Las Vegas Motor Speedway
http://www.moparsatthestrip.com

3 days of drag racing - truck-only class available with $75 entry fee, $250 1st place payoff, typically pays out to semi-finals (top 4 finishers). The first two days are open test n tune, the third is E.T. brackets.

3 days of car show - multiple truck categories are available, $50 entry fee. Enjoy seeing everything happening at the event while possibly winning a trophy plaque for your efforts.

General Admission (advanced registration): $20 for one day, $40 for the 3-day weekend.

Every year there has been a lot of exhibitors at the show, such as the HEMI Under Glass race car, the McDonald's trio of Mopar drag cars, HEMI dragsters, etc. This year will also include the mobile Dodge exhibition display with factory reps on hand to answer questions about their product.

Some other event extras:
4x4 poker run for off-roaders
Burnout contest (free entry)
Truck dyno king pulloff
Mopar Street Challenge (the total Mopar package contest)
Multiple Magazines on hand
Fri/Sat cruises to The Cannery hotel - the event participants get to park in a special section of the parking lot, quite often people will hang around outside just chatting with the other owners and the public, it always attracts quite a crowd.
Free live band Fri/Sat night at The Cannery hotel - a special section of the hotel is reserved for event participants, which includes a bar and catered food (the food/drink isn't free, but you don't have to buy it to enjoy the band). The band which is playing this year is a nationally recognized act, if you went to see them in concert you'd probably pay as much as the event's entry fee.

Unfortunately there is so much going on at the event this year that the organizers cannot offer a group registration discount. Pre-registration is available at http://www.moparsatthestrip.com, and a thread has been created at http://www.dakota-durango.com/forum in the events area if people have any further questions.

Previous event photographs are available for viewing here:

I think this year's Mopars at the Strip is going to be really crazy, it sounds like the truck guys are finally going to be there en masse - the past 2 years there was a zillion vintage mopars there but only about 10-15 trucks. With the various sites banding together I think we may hit 40 or more trucks if everyone follows through.

With this many people coming, everyone should try to stay at the same hotel, I think it would be a lot more fun that having everyone scattered all over town. There's enough cheap places out here for people to be able to attend at a minimum of expense as long as you can stay away from the casinos ;)

I will be at my Pops house if I can still make it. Might have to go to Russia instead :(

If I do make it, I will have the truck in the show and my dragster on the track (in the open to all Super Pro bracket class ((Its Chevy powered))

For those of you who may not have peeked at this thread recently, I edited the first post to include some newer information about the event. If you plan on attending please let us all know here so we can exchange contact and maybe even caravan information for those coming from out of town/state.

Okay I got my leave form signed by my boss yesterday, if we don't have a Hotel picked out yet then I'm just going to make a reservation at a Hotel near the track, prolly one suggested off their website.

For those of you who haven't been to Las Vegas before, here's a crude map.

http://members.cox.net/sincityrt/matsmap.jpg

The red star in the NE is Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The green line at the south end of town is "The Strip"

The yellow dot in the NE is The Cannery Hotel, which is the host hotel for the event (sorry, sold out) where the post-even cruise, parking lot hangout, and live band will be.

The magenta blob near the center of town is the Fremont Street Experience.

The cyan strip represents some cheaper hotels near the speedway located around Nellis AFB - not the greatest neighborhood but that's as close as you can get to the event.

The dark blue blob is another suggested area to stay with Sam's Town and Boulder Station (and other hotels off boulder highway) - they're off-strip but it's easy to get anywhere else in town.

How about a suggestion for a Hotel close to the track, thats might have openings, and isn't in a neighborhood I'd be scared to park my truck in :biggthump
