The 2005 4.7 HO has more stock HP then the older 360 did. With 250+ BHP and 300+ foot pounds of torque it is hands down faster and has better acceleration then the R/T had. The new 4.7 is as close to a Hemi as you can get. The only thing different is the heads are configured slightly different then the 5.7 Hemi. Everything else is the same.

Hardly, the 4.7l and 5.7l are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT Motors. The 4.7l is a SOHC motor while the 5.7l is OHV, central camshaft. There are soooo many differences between the two, i'll just say the two obvious.....

I have to say that that is a very brave statement you made there.

As far as the new 05 w/H.O. being faster than an R/T... not sure... if anything it'd be really close.
The 05's are bigger. They're longer, taller, and wider. Which means they're heavier. This additional weight effects the acceloration more than the make up of weight from the beefy 360 to the high revving 4.7L H.O.
I think that you're comparing two different things without knowing the facts or seeing the actual numbers. You're theory is correct....halfway... but to just go out and say it... as if you were "laying down the law".... is pretty brave if you ask me.

It was pointed out that the new engine is "almost" a Hemi - "the only reason it isn't called a hemi is because the combustion chambers have a wall on one side that makes it look kind of like a flat tire. Other than that everything is in the same arrangement. The valve springs are across from each other and the spark plug goes right down the middle."
The 4.7 has a cast iron block and two cast aluminum cylinder heads with a single overhead camshaft per bank and two valves per cylinder. It displaces 4701 cm3 (287 cu in.). A relatively small bore of 3.66 inches (93 mm) helped reduce overall length of the engine.
The information is direct from Dodge.

The engines being close to the same is correct. BUT..... they're almost completely different monsters because one is pushrod with roller rockers and so forth... and one is overhead cam design motor. Thats a HUGE difference between the two motors.... not to mention the actual SIZE of the motor.

No need to disagree with the designers of the engine. The information comes direct from Dodge not myself. The one and big difference between a Hemi and a standard engine is in the head design and the fact that the piston fires inside the head.
The new HO is as close to a Hemi as the Dakota will get for the next year or so. Dodge may introduce a Hemi in 06. In 06 Chevy is introducing a newly designed V8 in their Colorado. It will be producing about 400 HP. Dodge will compete if nothing changes between now and then.

Chevy really does have a Colorado SS show truck at sema. 6.0 LS2 Powered. I hope that GM will build it, I would really consider buying one if the price isn't too high. Too bad that the HEMI won't fit in the new Dak, if they could build a 6.1 HEMI SRT-8 Dakota to compete with the SS I would stay brand loyal.

For all of you Dakota owners out there that are considering the 05 dakota HEMI is on the way. I spoke to a good friend at the dodge service department who also has a dakota and he said that by spring 06 there will be a HEMI in the dakotas. they didnt put it in for the launch to see how the 4.7H.O. That being said this pic could be reality for all you DAK owners :mullet:

Not to burst your bubble there buddy... but you're wrong. The hemi won't go into the dakotas in 06,... I'm guessing WAY later... if EVER! The reason why is the core supports for the motor. The frame is not made to handle the width of the hemi. I know I know... but the Durango has it... why not the dakota... supposidly the dakotas and durangos have COMPLETELY different frames/core supports.

Talk about a headache... you might as well go get a 408... the computer doings that it would take to get it to work propperly would make you bang your head against a brick wall. I say good luck to you tho. I say save up for a monster power adder... or a 408.

All i can do is go off of what the guy said. being that he does service on dodge's im sure he would know what he is talking about but only time will tell. i even mentioned to him that people were saying that the hemi was too big for the new dakota frame and he said that most of the resizing had to be done to the headers and exhaust, but like said before only time will tell hope you dak owners get what you desire

The guys at S&P have everything needed for the swap from wiring harness and computer/programer to the mounts and what not .... just a matter of $$$
I am wanting the Hemi more for the everyday driver the 408 would be kick azz but just not to good driving to and from work each night ..If I do opt to forgo a Hemi transplant I will look into transplanting an 02 HO engine cause that monster is NiCe http://www.wjjeeps.com/engine.htm This page says it all they have either changed the new 4.7 HO or they taimed it down a bit in 02 it was 265HP and 335TQ now they are saying just 300 tq anyways when the time comes i'ma do either the Hemi or a 4.7HO swap depending on how funds are at the time .

I can't wait to look under the hood of a 3.7L just to see what it's all about. I wanna see spaces... see exactly how small it is compared to the 4.7L
Most people think that the 4.7L is this really small v8, but... its about the same size as a 5.9. It's just that the heads are aluminum so it weighs less.
