View Full Version : Lurked long enough!
Hey! Figured it was about time I stopped looking (and learning) and started contributing. This is a fantastic site and I've gotten a lot of good advice already. I'm pushing a 01 Durango 4.7 Black with a few custom things done and look forward to giving back.

After a fog light fix and some interior lights (my theme is black and blue) I'll clean her up, take some photos and post 'em. :onethumb:
And to everyone who welcomed me, thanks. Pics to come! :sorry:

You asked for it!
pics. I'm shooting for a black and blue theme.
...not least. Every light in the interior is blue except my glove box. It's blue but it's polarized and I must have put it in the wrong way because it ain't lit! But after pulling my dash off 6 times already I'll wait til next time to fix it. I just love getting off work and hitting my key fob and having my interior light up blue! BTW, I wanted to follow somebody on this board's directions about changing the HVAC lites to blue but me and soldering is like a first grader and chemistry (huh, whut?). So I chose to use Autolumination's bulbs that had a resistor built in and reused the old holders and voila. :twothumb:

Looks awsome...the hood emblem and dash emblems aren't really my taste but I'm diggin the rest. Nice job on the interior lighting :onethumb:

Thanks. Ironically I got the hood emblem idea from a Durango owner from Canada!

Thanks. Damn that's funny I was just thinking about taking off the sticker on my back window (if that's the one you're talking about) but the ones on the front I have to keep because I work on a military base. Gotta get to work, bro.
The show you're thinking of is The Boondocks.

How hard is it to take apart your dash to change the bulbs? I just got a 2002 durango and I kinda like that and wanna try it on mine. Im kinda dumb when it comes to electrical stuff and I dont wanna go and start taking it apart and then not be able to put it back together.

I've taken mine off like 6 times already - no big deal.
1. Set parking brake and disconnect the battery negative terminal cable.
2. Remove the fuse panel cover on the driver's side.
3. Remove 3 torx (T20) screws from knee panel and pull the panel downward to release it. Disconnect brake release rod to fully remove the panel.
4. Remove 2 phillips screws from the top edge of the trimpanel above the instrument cluster.
5. Pry around all edges of dash trimpanel to release metal clips. You'll have to put the car in like 1st or 2nd gear and pull the wheel all the way down to move the panel out of the way.
6. Remove like 4 or 6 (can't remember) around the instrument cluster and you're done.
Autozone or Advanced Auto sells 194 blue colored bulbs but they weren't blue/bright enough so I went with the blue leds from Superlumination and Autolumination because they matched my radio lights better and are very bright.
I got my info from posts on this forum. Try searching HVAC and blue gauges.
Good luck! :onethumb:

I like em so I can keep my windows open a little when it's raining.
That's the beautiful thing about our trucks - the individuality, right? Different strokes, etc.

I was wondering about the colored bulbs you put in the gauge lights. how much dimmer were they than stock. I sually like the dimmer switch turned halfway down, so are the blue bulbs much lighter than that?
Thanks

It's not that the blue are dimmer as they are not as harsh as the white. They light up the interior pretty good and I also have to drive with them at halfway down. The blue just gives it a softer light.
