Yup, we've got one. Her name is Kadie, she's 3 this spring I think.
We had a rottweiler before this dog, she just got old. And before the rottweiler we had a german shepherd, she just ran away one day...she was pretty old then too.

This is Kadie:

i had one years ago. shepard/collie mix... her name was sandy. great dog. used to come in the rooms and check if we were all ok and breathing, then lay at the top of the steps. as time went on, she couldnt make it up the steps no more, so she would camp out at the foot of them instead. shes gone now though, been some time shes been gone too.

We had to start our near 3 year old purebred GSD on prednisone tonight because of her constant itching.

But she is the most wonderfull animal ever ..a true part of our family.

years ago i had a pureblood true german shepard... he was about 130lbs when he was full grown... but he suffered epilepsy due to inbreeding, and he has a seizure in a pond and drowned.

I have owned numerous Shepards they are very loyal and loving Dogs. I have also owned a Shepard Wolf Hybrid (Misty)and was a totally awesome Dog lived to the ripe old age of 112 years old in human years thats 16. They are neat dogs and very well mannered if raised correctly. They do need alot of room to roam and I wouldn't recommend one for someone that has a small home or apartment. But great dogs nonetheless

Yea you're definitely right about the needing room to roam. I've observed that our dog makes her 'rounds'...you can see her path in the snow. I think it takes her all day to make her way around our yard (10 acres)...with a little time to eat whatever she finds.

I love the Shepherd. I don't have room for a dog right now, but when i move I'm going to get alittle land. How much does a Shepherd go for and is it really true what they say about their hips?

Thanks :usa2:

A purebred with papers from a high pedigree can be quite expensive , for example ... Bailey was 1300 CDN. But in all honesty you can find them much cheaper , much much cheaper and still have a superb animal.

And yes in most cases these dogs do suffer from bad hips later on in life.

For some reason the number $400CDN comes to my mind as for what we paid for Kadie. She is purebred with papers too.

Yea, I think a lot of the 'big' dog breeds hips start to go when they get older.

That makes me really miss Shorty - a pure white 130 lb male I had many years ago.

A new neighbor (out in the country) had a large (esp for the breed) male
Doberman that was very aggressive. He came onto our place one day and
took after Shorty. Shorty had never been around unfriendly dogs, so turned
tail and ran - about 3 steps.

Then I saw the light go on "Hey! This is MY turf!" - he turned around and
tore the hell out of that doby. First time that doby had been the "under dog"

He was about 12 when I had to move away and rent a place in a new town
for awhile so had to have him put to sleep. Broke my heart.

I had a shepherd/huskie mix growing up. Her name was skeeter....an amazing dog. She died at the age 13 (we had her put down). She lost a lot of weight and seemed that she couldn't drink ENOUGH water.

My girlfriend and I are moving back to my parents house in the country (20 acres) and I'm currently looking for a pure bred GSD. The cheapest i've found around me is $1100 fully papered!!!

I don't care though, the GSD is the most loyal and protective dogs ever known. I'll pay that price for the man's best friend...

This is my purebreed. Turning 7 on the last day of may. He has amazing intelligence and is a very loving, loyal dog.

I'm currently on my third GSD. Absolutly love the breed for their intelegence, loyalty, and their sense of belonging in the family. Schafer is the one I have now, he's going on four. (will post pics tomorrow) I got him, well he picked me truth be told, from Sanderhaus kennels in Orange VA. (great place highly recommended) Schatzi was a damn good dog, quite possibly the smartest dog I've ever had. I got her when I was stationed in Germany, but had to put her down shortly after arriving back in the states due to cancer. Dusty was the first GSD I owned. He was super intellegent, but not good on the commen sense side of the house. I left him with family in TN when I went to Germany, he got out of the fence one day and was never seen again... Anyway, great dogs, IMHO the best breed on the planet.

I used to have 2 when I was little and they were the best. I think those are the best kinda dogs when I get my own place I will be getting another one and if I can it will be a white one I just think those are fine.

Never personally owned a Shepard, but my dad used to have an Albino GS. A couple of close friends have had them also. ME and the wife want a dog, but our apt doesnt have enough room. When we move, we will get either a GSD or a Rott.

I have one as well. It's a great dane/sheperd mix. The mother was a white sheperd and the father was AKC winning Great Dane(went into the neighbors yard, lol). The dog was unwanted by the owner but it's by far the best animal I've ever owned. 7months old and 72lbs.
