View Full Version : When do you hang the keys up for the day.
This is influenced by another thread on this site.
At what level do you not drive if drinking or high.
I realize that the time factor is a huge variable so let's stick to a 3 hour time limit before driving.
The question here is .
How many drinks will you have before driving?
If you smoke weed, do you smoke and drive.
Do you smoke drink and drive?
(not sure how to make a poll here)
I'm posting results from a poll I did on another site.

Maybe I'm too anal, maybe I'm too extreme, but I don't drink and drive at all- just to play it safe.
And... Null on the smoke.

hmm, my choice wasnt on the poll selections... i drink till my hearts content and just call a friend when I need a ride home... either that, or one person in the group only has a couple drinks and he is the designated driver.
ps- no smoking for me either

If it matters.I was a DRUNK.Any time, anywhere, and driving while drunk was some of the best times ever. Now after a bunch of arrests and $$$$$$ I think I just might have better judgement.I was never in a wreck, never hurt anyone except family(feelings and trust). So my advise is keep your cash for fun not fines.

If I'm out with someone else who can drive I will let them drive if I drink. If I drove then I will only have 1 or 2 and thats it. I'll also chill for a bit afterwards before leaving.

The poll should be set up different with the ability to choose multiple answers
I have a max of 2 beers if I'm gonna drive, depending on the amount of time I'm out...but typicaly 2
I won't smoke and drive...

if im drivin its 1 beer, after its gone i wait 2 hrs to leave at the least, i wont get out and drink and try to drive home drunk, way i look at it i like my life, truck and license, so why risk higher insurance, someone elses life, bad record, no vehicle etc. when i first got my license this wasnt the case, up til i got pulled over -i was sober by then- by 2 county, 2 city and 1 undercover, cuz i spun out a lil on a wet road, and luckly got out of it and just a charge for alky by minor.

I wish I could have set up the poll a bit different but the boards software doesn't allow for multiple question polls.
Has anyone done a poll on ages of D-D?
Thanks for all the answers.
When driving we can get away with using a cell phone, having a few beer or whatever you happen to do.Eventually many come across a situation where we need both hands and 100% of our abilities. It could be someone changing lanes, backing on to the road, a left turn in front of you or a child chasing a ball, accidents happen and people are killed or injured because a driver made a poor choice.

I smoke cigs... but not weed, I tried it once or twice when i was a sophmore in high school, but havent touched it since, I dont drink...
my mother nearly killed herself back in 1987 in a 86 honda accord... when she got drunk and got behind the wheel and wrapped her car around a telephone pole and back then those hondas were made out of aluminum foil... and my brother has had 3 DWI's and if he keeps it up he'll get a 4th... I try and learn from other peoples mistakes...
I quit drinking about 3 years ago and havent touched alcohol since... now if i could just quit smoking cigarettes... :smokin:

I don't smoke weed (tried it a few times) and I hardly ever drink. When I do I usually only have 1 beer the entire night, if that. Personally I like the taste of pepsi over beer any day, and I can drink a whole 12 pack and still drive. If anything I'll have BETTER reaction time. lol. :onethumb:

You're not alone. I can probably count the number of nights I spent sober between the ages of 21-~27 on one hand. I drove home many nights when I wouldn't have been able to walk around the block, but likewise, I never had any accidents. My first DUI didn't even slow me down...That was just a slap on the wrist, and didn't really change much for me. The second (and final) DUI caused me to spend a week in jail, and that was a big wake-up call for me. Since then, I don't really have the same desire to go out and get all tore up like I used to.
It's amazing the amount of money you save not going to the bars every night too!
The extent of my drinking now amounts to hanging out in the pits after the races in the summertime and polishing off a few, but since I'm not driving that's the only real reason why I'll do that. If I'm driving, I go real easy. First sign that I'm getting a little buzzed and I either get out of there, or have my buddy tow my truck home. I'd rather pay him a little more to tow my vehicle back home than risk it being damaged leaving it sit at the bar somewhere and getting a ride home. Had that happen once, and vowed it would never happen again...A $50 tow is a lot cheaper than having to fix vandalism.

Wow. I'm guess I'm the lone smoker on here.:smokin:
I always have my wife with me in case I get too drunk. I smoke a lot in the truck but I am very careful about it and only do it at the right time. Neither one has caused me an accident. I'm kind of a stoner but if you look at everyone else out there on pills you can't claim much of a difference. I know how MJ affects the body and what it does. Believe me, its a million times better for you then alcohol. Plus, you can actually grow back the brain cells lost from MJ. Just take fish oil. You guys remember the miners lost in Penn. couple years ago. Well only one got out but he lost most of his brain due to oxygen starvation. Doctor gave him 15,000 mg of fish oil a day and he grew every part of his damaged brain back. Can't grow your liver back the same way. Plus I'll never get cataracs!:jester:
I'm just severly annoyed at the ignorant stigma attached to MJ. Its like we're still in 1937 and people believe that only blacks and indians do because they are losers. If you don't know, that is how they segregated and punished those who weren't white back then and outlawed MJ that year.
I think its really funny that even though they outlawed alcohol once, people would not give in so they made it legal once more.

I don't drink, I am underage; not like it matters anyways, any 16 year old can get alcohol these days.
I don't smoke, though I have thought about trying it.
I have thought about trying both, but have not given in to my desires yet.

If I have anything I won't drive, The way I see it is maybe a couple bucks in beers could destroy thousands of dollars and hours upon hours of work I put into my truck, and I can't get that back. Whats the point in even putting money into your truck if you get drunk and could wreck it? Not to mention what if you got a couple in you your totally fine to drive even if slightly over the limit (yeah I know it effects people differently so some people can probably be fine driving never know) and just driving like normal avoid a pothole and cop thinks your drunk which if you were sober they'd let you go. But even though you were maybe fine to drive and just did what you would have done regardless you get boned with a DUI... imho why risk it, really?

Why is the poll closed? Boo!
I'm not sayin it is right, but 7+ upon many occasion.
Maybe it's because I have been drinking since I was 16, but it just doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me.
After having about 1/2 a fifth of Cuervo Black (Split it with a buddy), and sitting around for a couple of hours, I got pulled over and blew a .09 (Limit is .08) I got away with it, but that really woke me up. I can't belive how LOW the limit is. I was fine. I didn't ever even feel 'drunk' the entire night, let alone drunk.
No wonder so many people get a DWI. Yikes!
I'm 18 and I can rember driving drunk a lot, I have done it quite a few tiimes. I have only gotten caught by my parents, luckily they chewed my ass big time. I can remeber a lot of times where I don't even rember driving home. Sad part is, im not a terrible drunk driver. But a while ago a buddy of mine got a DWI and it showed me how much shit you really have to go through and that it really isn't worth it. It was fun and all driving around the country getting drunk, but now I gotta put that behind me before shit happens to me.

Much like everything in life, some common sence is required. If i'm in my truck, not a drop, my truck is a cop magnet. Now if i'm in another vehicle that a different story.

i used to drink quite a bit when i was younger, (34 now), came home so lit, took me a day or two to remember how i got home. (bachalor parties where grate then..lol). I sometimes would take a nap in the truck too. did that like twice (in my garage--also never hit anyone-or did anything to the truck...cept puke out the drivers door one night, got to the bottom of my driveway and went up the smal ramp a bit too harchly, and YACK!)).,,,but the moral to the story is thank god i didnt. now, though, i rarely drink at all. might have 2-3 but thats it. and that dont even do anything to me. there used to be a time when i had 2-3 and it would really put me down..lmao. college years, gotta love cheap ass beer..god was it nasty..
dont smoke weed, or cigs. IMO, its a nasty hbit, and cant stand it. had alot of people in my family smoke cigs,...most are gone or quit.

when it comes to drinking i've done my fair share, but for the most part i drink kinda lightly now. I still have a pretty good tolerance when it comes to that. Only one time did i get too drunk to drive home, i had one of my other friends there drive me to his place and crashed there. Most time if i know im driving then i only have a couple drinks and or shots. Plus im lucky since most places i got are close to the freeway, and i live off the freeway. So i just hop on then hop and im home, rarly have to worry about driving past cops or checkpoints.

years ago I used to drink and drive like crazy, would smoke and drive also. I'm talking starting out at one bar around 6:00pm and then going to another and partying there for awhile and then moving on to another to finish the night up. I used to drink allot and it was nothng for me to be out and have 15 to 20 Gin and Tonics, I was pretty much an alcoholic, finally decided I needed to cut that shit out, now I very seldom drink but I will still party when on a bike trip with the guys or something like that.
Anyway, now I don't like to drink and drive at all, if i do have one or two I will drive (I'm 6' and 280 Lbs. two drinks doesn't affect me much) but more then that and i won't. It's just not worth it, it's so easy to get a DUI now a days and if you do you can plan on spending close to $10,000 by the time its all done. just not worth it.
