I'd like to put a turbo on my 4.7 durango and was wondering if any companies make kit's for my car. I've seen some turbo dakota's so I know it can be done but so any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

As far as I know.... there isn't a true kit. You can piece together all the stuff you need... but then again... thats gunna take a good bit of money. But if you're going to do it..... make sure to do the research first and do it right the first time.

You're going to wanna talk to a guy named Duner.... from what I know of... I think he's the only guy with a turbo on his dakota.

I hope this helps.

Paul

P.S. if you find a kit of some kind... please post... cause I was thinking of going turbo as well.

Ditto to Paul's post.

All ive heard is that you'd have to piece it together as well.
I'd much rather go Turbo then Charger

Agreed, anyone knows different please post!

Oh hell yeah. I'd buy a kit in a heartbeat. Duner’s running mid 12s with his 4.7 setup. I'd be happy with mid to low 13s with a turbo. I just don't have the patience and ingenuity to piece together a turbo setup from scratch by myself. A kit would be uber-sweet.

I've got an intercooled turbo 4.7. Runs strong. Went from a max speed of 35mph up 9% grades towing my 4000 lb boat to 55+. The only complaint I have is how tight the hood seals. I need to install some louvers to get rid of the hot air once you stop.

Wow!!! Did you make that urself?? How much did it cost you altogether, and ummmm u wanna make me one???

I had a lot of the parts sitting around. Removed one of the fog lights and stuffed the intercooler there. It's very stealthy. There is about $3000 in parts and about 50 hours worth of fabricating. Since the engine is offset to the right it makes it a tight squeeze. Wasn't thrilled that the fuel system didn't have a regulator at the fuel rails. Needed the additional power since the drive on my boat is heavier than most to put up with the 1000+ ft-lbs the hemi puts out.

There is a company up in Idaho which has been developing a 4.7L Turbo for some time now, their prototype vehicle is owned by Jason Watts who is the DRTC Autocross king. As soon as a commercially viable option is available I'll post the details in the parts section.

Any idea what the performance numbers they're aiming for are?

The numbers work to about 300hp at the rear wheels at 4 psi boost measured after the intercooler. Haven't dynoed to confirm but based on my towing performance up 9% grades it's in that range. Not committing to making kits but if I did they would run $4500 +/-. I'm leaning toward the - and eliminating fuel hoses and fitting. Let the installer supply hose and fittings of choice. This would still be plenty of work for the installer. Fuel tank has to be pulled and the pump assembly carfully disassembed in order to reuse. 2 bolts hold the existing fuel line to the bellhousing. The top one can only be reached from the top which requires pulling the intake off. 4X4 needs the front driveshaft removed to install the X-overpipe. Sawsall required to cut the existing Y pipe near the cat. Bumper needs to be removed to install the intercooler. Recommended owner supplied upgrades: 5.9 (360) radiator. Oil cooler, insulation around AC lines, and hood louvers especially if you do a lot of stop and go driving.

the only company that i know of that could make a turbo for 4.7 is STS turbo (Squires Turbo System). its all custom fit so its going to cost a lot, but the turbo replaces the muffler and you run your plumbing from the back of your truck to the front which makes intercoolers obsolete. the kits work up to 20 lbs of boost and all the fuel delivery and timing and tuning is done by a sts dealer

Seems like that much distance betwen the turbo and intake would mean a whole lot of lag

TopDawgN8
02-25-2005, 06:14 AM
aparently when u go to the site and read up, there's constant pressure, so lag is virtually non-existant. It seems like a pretty good setup. It sounds really weird on the Camaro LS1 engine; but when you look at the GMC trucks, it sounds pretty damn awsome. Very simplistic and supposedly very efficient. If they develope somehting for the 4.7, I think I would definitely jump on that wagon! :clap2:I'm going to check on Consumer Reports and see how these guys check out.
