View Full Version : what mod first?
hey guys, tryin to decide what i should do next. msd 6a or 6al? bigger TB? or 1.7rockers? ive been upgrading the intake and working back to headers/exhaust which i will do last. which TB should i go with and what brand? i notice that F+B makes the top quality, but fastman is half the price. any differences? its pretty much just a street truck, no racin or anything.
current mods-
k+n fipk
m1 manifold
magnaflow catback- came on truck.
plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, standard tuneup.

FWIW, I ported my own TB. Can't afford a Fastman or F&B. I picked up one from the junkyard through car-part.com. Came with all sensors and a throttle bracket. I ground off and polished what I could. I will post the pics and such tonight when I get home. I noticed a change in power and throttle response. Eventually I will get an F&B, but that is pretty far down the road. Cost wise I think this was a good compromise.

if you plan on more mods, then you'll be safe going with a 52. with the mods you have now, you'll see a difference and it will work good, but if you mod your engine more, it will work better.

Here is a pic of the TB I ported/polished myself. Not pretty, but it will work until I can afford an F&B.

what did you do to the butterflies and shaft?

Nothing yet. It took me long enough to get the horns cut off and ground down. I plan on getting some countersunk allen head screws to replace the stock ones on the shaft. The shaft will be thinned out a little, and the butterflies will be sharpened on the edge only. The new screws will be flush with the shaft as well.
I have an 11 month old running around the house with me, so time to work on the truck is somewhat more limited than it used to be. After I got the initial stuff done I was tired and my wife wanted the garage back so I cleaned up everything and swapped it out on the truck. Hopefully I will get it completely finished over the Labor day holiday weekend. That and an electric fan install and finish my MSD ignition upgrade.

180 degree stat
Taylor 8 mm wires
NGK plugs
Brass cap and rotor
MSD CD
MSD Blaster SS Coil
After all of that open up the throttle body by either going with a billet 50 mm or modified stock. The MI will perform tons better if you port match it with the heads. Next should be the 1:7 roller rockers and upgrade the PCM program.

i hit everything on that list except for the msd ignition, and from what i hear the stock throttle body is a 50mm? think ill lean towards the 1.7 rockers and then headers.
