Alright, so last night my buddy came by...he's in the marines, home on leave and he's heading over to Iraq and last night was the last time Im gonna see him until he comes home, so I did a nice farewell smokie for him when he leaves :usa2: :mullet: Well....when I come back home, it was only a one wheel peel. Is that a sign of the LSD going or...whats up?

Wanna know the same...lately my right wheel is the only one going, burnout or not. If I'm at a stop sign and i'm making aright, i press the gass normally and i feel the back rigth wheel the only one with power and like, making the tranny funny.

When my rear end was going out in my 3.9 it made bad sounds when going around turns, I only had the 3.21 gears though. Finally one day when I was out driving it finally gave out with a loud clunk.
Just pull off your cover and have a look at it. If you see excessive metal debris then you may have a problem.

Won't the fluid go everywhere if you pull the cover off? :jester:

The factory LSD isnt worth a shit. When you start frying 1 tire that means your clutches are eating themselves up. I bet if you take your cover off youll see pieces of the clutches on the magnet. Hopefully no pieces will get into your gears. That magnet helps

They already think I abuse it... they dicked me over on my transmission and wouldnt cover it cause it "showed signs of abuse". So this wont be covered either, warranty is out the window... especially with whats supposed to be going on over the next couple days ;)

Ok so the factory rear on a 00' Durango 4x4 with 9.25" 3.55 is open diff right? Not lsd? Lsd spins both at the same time?

Depends on the specific Dak/Dur. If you shoot me the last 9 of your VIN# I can tell you if it came with the LSD or not.

A good replacement unit is Auburn for a LS unit. if you want you can get a true locker like Detroit. I think yellowkota has the Detroit. I know on LSD units if you really overpower the clutches it basically turns into a open diff because youre overpowering the clutches inside the case. A LS is better than a open diff but nothing beats a true locker. Im not sure but some companies may make a spool for the rear but thats really a axle breaker especially if you get on it a lot.

Depending on how much you want to spend, I would suggest getting an ARB air locker. Open until you need/want it locked.

i've replaced all the bearings on the truck, the driveshaft and u joints, the front hubs,... and still i get the humming noise and a 1 tire traction thing....should i get a locker for a daily driver R/T??

Just get a detroit locker and you won't ever have to worry about your rear blowing up on you again. It's around 4-500 bucks but it is a true locker. It is a big noisy but is so much fun to drive. Both wheels will ALWAYS spin, but rememeber, maintaince is necessary for a locker. Change the oil every 15k miles!
