alrite i dont know what everyhting is called but what if i took off the pipes the housing around it and juts got like a nylon sock or somehitng simliar put it around where the intake pipe conects to the main part of the engine put one of those metal clamps that are basicly a circle and u tighten the screw and the circle gets smaller would that work for a very very very cheap intake system?

Are you talking about hose clamping a pair of nylon pantyhose onto the airhat?
Uhhhhhhh.... NO. Won't work for a couple of reasons.

Sorry, no offense or anything...
Well first of all... the whole point of all the tubing is to get air from somewhere other than right next to the engine because the air there is very hot. The goal is to get COOL air, that is why the tube runs all the way to that hole in the fender, where the air is much cooler than directly above the engine. If you were to use that idea you'd be sucking hella hot air.
Also, that wouldn't filter the air very well compared to a real automotive filter.
And then you wouldn't have anywhere for your IAT sensor to go...
Basically the answer is no, and if you did it that way, it would completely defy the purpose of the whole intake setup in the first place ;)

OK now that they got you in the right direction if you want a good intake go with the 360 intakez.
OR I don't know how well this works but I did see a pic of it on a truck. You can go and get a Civic CAI at autozone and it may work

the nylon on the intake works...but i wouldnt recommend it. basically what its doing is eliminating the air restriction, freeflowing air. but the filtration is almost zero...you can try it down the quarter but thats only looking for trouble. remember that the nylon is flameble.

Even if it had any filtration... seriously... you'd be sucking nothing but hot air. You'd get more cfm but the heated air would almost negate that.

yea thats true but it wouldnt hurt as much as it improves...and normally when your at the track your engine is not that hot...not as hot as it would be say on the freeway or crusing the town...

If there is one thing I've learned from doing research and stuff like that.... it's doing it right the first time.
Wait,..hold out, until you can save up enought money to get a true cold air intake from 360 intakez www.360airintakez.com Because if you half-ass something, it won't come out the right way, and you may end up hurting your motor.
And the guy that put it on his supra.... sounds like he doesn't know a whole lot... I would question everything he says, and get a second/third opinion before going out and trying what he says. Him having a supra doesn't help his side of the story either. Cause we all know it's a big hollywood gimic to have one of those slow cars... wOOT!

Try the PVC and wrap it with this heat shield.

For those who want to make their own air intake try this site. They sell the tubing and silicone connectors.
