i know, but these fools will move fast and strip it down. i dont think i will be buying any parts listed in the local papers, if i see any. that just sucks, i got a 2000 R/T brand new and after 4 years it has never been messed with. now i gotta watch my back. big decision now: spend money on parts or good alarm?

howzit. the truck had an alarm w/starter disable setup, but my son said he didn't hear the alarm go off. i just talked to the resident manager and he said he didn't hear the alarm either. i tested the alarm yesterday, because my neighbor had his lightning stolen two nights ago.
somehow i don't think it will be stripped, because it was always kept clean & waxed. truck is stock except for dual cat-back, clean air intake and sprayed bedliner. the vin#1B7GL32Z42S538680. think i'll take a run down to the track tonite to see if the truck will show up.

I MOVED OUT OF MAKAKILO 2 YEARS AGO. i used to live in Palehua townhouses. 1 lightning and 1 R/T, they just might be dumb enough to run them both at the track. i would go but i'm in orlando/jacksonville, fl til the end of the week. hope you get it back.

good news!! R/T was found and one shit-head arrested today. everything is still intact, truck was all dirty & muddy, littered with cheap jewelry and gas cans in the back seat and two in the bed. found a bag of white stuff & got rid of it.
lot of minor damage from the break-in, but nothing that cannot be fixed with insurance... wondering if i should rip out the stereo before the insurance adjuster gets here :-)
get this, when the truck was in the shop for 4 days at the dealership, copies of the keys were made, to even include the alarm on/off switch. cops showed me the keys, couldn't take it though, had to leave it for evidence.
followed many R/T's for the last ten days and didn't realize until my truck was stolen, that mine was the only one not lowered. does anybody know a good place here, that does lowering for our trucks? thinking of using the hotchkis kit...
also, want to thank scott for placing my info. on this website. think i met you scott at the track one night, year or so ago. believe your R/T was silver too?

I bought the ignition, door handles and keys off of a junked Dakota. I changed them all out myself. There is only 1 key, and I have it. Also, I've been told that they can look at your vin# and steal a key for it from the dealership or something like that? I covered my Vin# up with black electrical tape (the one on the dash under the windshield) I know that even if they do get the key for my Dak it won't work... but still....
Anyway, I'm buying an alarm and installing it myself, aslo have the mechanism that turns the engine off and locks the doors if the engine is started without the key (uses a microchip to disarm the system) Anyway, a very nice thing to have. Also trying to find a way for the system to send a txt msg to my cell phone, or have it trip a pager just for the alarm in the truck.

TG..
congrats on the recovery.. if mine disappeared I dohn know what I would do!!!
also.. dropping these trucks isn't that hard really.. front springs are easy.. pop the lower ball joint, rather than the upper.. Scott and I have done them repeatedly now.. his and my trucks, as well as Scott and Vince on his. The rears.. the only real pain in the arse is the front bushings, but if you have the H-kis, then I think they come with 2 piece poly bushings.. but I am not sure. They are MUCH easier to put in.. mine are CalTrac monoleaf with an aluminum bushing.. I learned new profanity when I put the first set in.. the second set I had them installed when the springs shipped!!!! LOL
Do the drop yourself.. or talk some friends into helpin' for a "get together" weekend or something.. then have someone align it.. like my friend Louis at Lex B's in Waipahu.. but seriously.. don't pay a shop to drop it.. you will get a hack job, and jacked on it. Do it right.. do it yourself.. aka.. with friends..
I will be out Saturday night.. but won't be racing my truck.. v-body STILL hasn't shown up.. if it shows up today.. I will pop the street tires back on and drive it out though. I need to help tune and setup a friends hard hitting mustang.. he is shooting for mid to high 9's on a car that has the potential to run a high 8.. or atleast should... baby steps.. I got him a 10 with almost no program in it! LOL he insists that he has my fill attention.. meaning.. no tuning on my truck.. DAMN IT! LOL
Scott.. if you and Vince show up.. I can and will help you guys too..
if you wanna play with my tires lemme know and they are yours! might be kinda tall though.. jack the pressure up in them... might help.

truck's in the shop getting parts replaced, (door handle, lock, ignition switch, & cover etc.) they're having to repaint the driver side door & rear qtr. panel & tailgate. insurance is paying for "most" of the "can see will fix" repairs.
they can't start the truck though. motor cranks, you can smell the gas, but there's no spark coming out of the coil to the distributor for no#1. like a dumbarse, i told them (after reading trevor's similar problerm) "oh yeah, it's probably the crank position sensor... ^&*", ... they listened & replaced it...stilllllll didn't start. hehe, lol
got a new cps out of that one!! maybe the next time i go and harass them, i'll tell them, it's because it needs a new m1 intake and a 52mm tb.. probably get chased outa there. hehe
it didn't throw any codes... any ideas?? they said a "real mechanic" was gonna look at it later.
adam will be getting me the info. for shipping etc. & final cost for the hotchkis. since i cannot do work at my place, kaui56, i may take you up on your offer for getting the hotchkis kit installed. otherwise, i'll probably use the stalls on-base at schofield, they have all the air tools, lifts etc. normally, i would have my sons help me, but they're tied up with this damn iraqi war.

this truck have the security key code in the key?? or something like that..
or.. maybe the ignition coil took a dump.
They need to check voltage to the coil.. if it has it, and it's not firing.. then the coil is crap.. if they DON'T have it.. then they need to find it! LOL ignition fuse, so on and so forth.

Tell them to take it to DC eletric. They speciallize(sp?) in finding those kinds of problems. They are up in Halawa.

no don't have a special key, thought i did. checking the ignition coil makes sense... although, i kinda like the m1 suggestion... my wife lhao when i told her the story.
don't think the repair shop will listen to me anymore though...should have told them, no, i'm not the mechanic, but i slept at the holiday inn the night before.

Been a year since I last posted. Adam never got back to me on the Hotchkis TVS kit (w/bilsteins), so I got it from sam @ SocalDak. Ordered it April 05 and finally got here in June. My son came back from Iraq, so we used the hobby shop on base w/lifts & air tools to install the Hotchkis TVS kit (Kaui56 -Thanks for the offer).
Since then, until today, everytime I drive that truck now, I cuss & swear the name Hotchkis my ##$ whenever I hit a small bump or tiny wave in the road. The front end being stiff is okay, but the rear leaf springs are just too harsh for our roads in Hawaii - just way too harsh. (I must tell Hotchkis that - like they care).
Makakilo's road is newly paved, so the truck drives & handles like a dream, but get on the H1, H2 and every else on this island and it's murder on the kneck, shoulders and kidneys. Both of my sons cars are dropped (Camaros), but still not as stiff riding as the truck w/the Hotchkis.
If I had to do it again, I would go with a drop kit that keeps the stock RT suspension, (I think DJM has one) control arm in front & blocks in the back? Cheaper w/better results.
Until then, don't mind me, I'll just keep on cussing until they come out w/the dakota SRT 8 w/the 6.1 hemi (wishful thinking). Maybe, I'll park the truck on the roadside and someone will steal it....again.

its a truck bud, supposed to be a somewhat of a stiff ride. made to haul stuff. i bet you put in about 200-500 lbs of stuff in the bed, i bet you the ride will smooth out. i know mine did in my ram i got off my dad after he passed. man i miss that truck... :(
my current truck is lowered in the back, rides a little on the stiff side too. dont mine it too much (im here in the northeast).
so glad you got it back. as far as the white stuff you found...(shoulda kept it...sold it on the side or something, woulda got alot of coin for it...lol) just dont get caught!
good luck with it man. post pics if you can.

Check your rear shocks.. if they aren't mounted with the body down, flip them over and try it. Quite a few folks mount them body up then complain about a really stiff ride in the rear, then flip them and it's much better.
On the same token..
Hotchkis is designed as a road course suspension, not a cushy Caddy ride, so they are stiffer, that in turn is what aids to the handling performance increase. One other option would be adjustable shocks that you can soften and stiffen as desired.
With my QA1's I can set them to ride like a blown out Buick, or as hard and harsh as I want them.
But yes.. Hawaii roads suck balls.. one of many reason my plates are coming off the R/T and it is seeing a trailer from now on. I see no reason to keep paying the falked up place when the money isn't really doing any good on the roads. Will just pound around in my book hooptie beater and let the roads and people fear me.. not me fear them! :biggthump :jester:

It isn't necessarily "Hotchkis" that is the cause of your problem, it's "drop kit" - lowered suspensions reduce the amount of space a shock has to absorb the bumps in the road, which results in a bumpy ride.
Installing adjustable shocks like QA1's and/or installing a C-Notch to give the shock more travel room will help reduce the bumpiness.

Wait wait
you said the copies were made when the truck was at the dealer. HHHMMMM How about going to the dealership and telling them what happend and that they most likely have dishonest employees. If you can prove the keys were made by a dealer employee hhhmmm I bet that gives you some ammo with the dealer.

It's seems the more I complained & bitched about the hotchkis suspension, the more I wanted to drive it, hmmm...the bumpier the ride got, the faster I drove it. Just have to remember to stay off the bumpiest part of the highway.
When it's on smooth pavement, suuummmbitch is sweet!! Was able to keep up w/my son's dropped camaro (Eibach suspension) around turns, which I was never able to do before putting on the Hotchkis. So that put a big grin on my face.
So, think I'm gonna keep it.... okay...I love it what can I say. Besides, I like how it looks w/the drop. I'll try to put some pictures up, once I figure out how. Truck is stock looking, nothing special.
