Hi guys,
I have a 2002 Dakota 3.9L v6.
I broke some sort of valve on the passenger side valve cover. I was following the instructions on how to replace your pcv valve in the Haynes manual, but I guess I used alittle to much force. When I pulled up on this thing it snaped in half. I'm staring straight a picture showing the mechanic pulling this thing up near the trans fluid dip stick and airbox tube, but I don't think its right.
Any idea how I can fix this and what parts I need?
Here's a Pic:

Thanks in advanced,
Dave

:jester: :sorry: but smoke isn't supposed to come out of anywhere on the valve cover, out of the engine or anywhere that isn't the tailpipe.
That looks like the oil breather cap. Is it connected by a hose into the air hat or does the hose go to the intake manifold? If it's not connected to the intake manifold then you can drive around with it but you may no pass inspection since it's letting oil vapor into the atmosphere.
You should be able to twist and pull that out also. Over the years they can really get themselves wedged in there.

Thanks Sam,
This breather cap is starting to drive me crazy. It will not come loose.
I went through the trouble of removing the valve cover to see if it was secured by a thread and bolt, but it wasn't. Even my PCV valve is wedged into the cover and will not budge.
Could I spray some liquid wrench in there to possibly get this thing out?
Will that harm the valves? What are my options here besides buying new covers?

Yeah it's just a breather......you can try to remove it and replace it or you can just buy one of these......
It's a little round air filter that clamps on to the plastic piece that comes out of the valve cover....I had to cut the 90* elbow off of mine so it was straight

That's a sweet setup AmberFireDaK. The good thing is, is that the the 90 degree bend in the elbow snapped of with room to spare for one of those filters. But the bad thing is, in my quest to remove the breather entirely, I chipped away the round plastic base. It looks like crap now. I'm probably going to have to buy a new valve cover if I want to retain the aesthetics.

If you just chipped the plastic base you shouldn't need to buy a new valve cover......I'm sure you can buy just that piece
