All my freinds who got small "fast" cars think they got fast cars... my freinds with a VW GTI VR6 or the Mazda3 think they will beat the shit out of me in a race. Last week on my way to Ozzfest my freind in the GTI and i are driving and im in front, he gets next to me and starts a race, as soon as i see him take off i hit the pedal and a few moments later me and him are side by side, then all of a sudden i pull out in front. When we stopped he was like, "damn man, that truck is fast!" Keep in mind its a big quad cab, NOT an R/T but it is a 5.9L v8. Regardless he said he was pushing 6th gear cause his car was in stick but i fucking tore the GTI a new asshole. The one problem i have is acceleration, those little cars go faster obviously cause they wiegh 1/3 the wieght but if there is enough road my Dakota flies by them. Now for those kids in my school with a V8 mustang i just say i'll kick their ass and run over their car. haha.

yes,. your car has a problem which is an acceleration and huge weight,. even there's a mile of straight empty road, your dakota won't fly by any of little fast cars you mentioned above like you think. i outrun lightnings on 80mph+. and gti and mazda3 don't weight 1/3 of your car, mine is 3000lb.

30K for a Dak R/T? Where did you get that figure from. I bought my 2000 R/T brand new for 21K. A slightly used lightning or maybe a newer lightning with rebates might go for 30K. My personal opinion is i would rather have the displacement, and your right i use my truck. But its nice to haul something and spank the shit out of a few cars. Never raced a VW GTI before so i don't know what their like or what they run in the 1/4. However i do think you wouldn't totally spank a Dak R/T in the twisties with hotchkis suspension and a good set of tires. These tanks have been known to handle like their on rails.

You might walk v6 Mustangs, but you could not beat my 5.0 I know that for sure. I know you would not beat a 99-04 Stang GT they run low 14's all day long stock. i think you truck looks sweet, but it is no race car.

I had a 99 Mustang and it ran 14.5 stock at the track and it was a convertible. They are quick, but could be quicker.

As for the GTI beating a Ford Lightning.....I am sorry, but that would not happen....unless you have a whole new engine that has been stroked to the max and a turbo with 21 PSI of boost. UNLESS...you are talking about the Gen I lightnings, then that might be a close race. But a Gen II lightning....I call :bs2: big time!!!

I raced a modded GTI Golf... He had me till about 60, (he was "pullin" but barely) Then i proceeded to school his ass...

Also I read about pullin a Lightning at 80... I would like to see a N/A dakota pull a Lightning at 80... My BONE STOCK L would rip my buddies LS1 a new one on the highway, BOOST makes it FAST at top end... I could get from 80 to 120 in NO TIME... I love dakota's, but I've never felt acceleration like that from a N/A motor... NEVER

About smoking GT's, Hell I give a DAMNED good run in my Slow stock 5.2 Club Cab, course my trucks lighter than most here (old school is the DEALIE!) but with my small ass tires, I can hold my own till around 90ish... I just run outa breathing on that poor stock motor...

Uh, bolt on only Dakota R/Ts no power adder, stock heads/cam etc, valve covers never touched have run as quick as 12.9@106. Ls usually run stock 13.8-14.1@98-100mph, now why couldn't that NA Dakota pull an L at 80? Imagine an NA Dak with heads/cam.

Or imagine a 1g/2g Dak with a 360 or strong 318.....

It's not only doable, it's often done and doable easily with nothing more than boltons.

I know it isn't the same thing, but my stock (engine) Dakota with off-road tires and rimes, bull bar, tonneau cover etc beat my freinds stock GTI in stick. If that means anything, but i'm not sure what the whole "4-banger" thing is for the GTI...

My QC 4.6 is fast as hell IMHO. The neighbor kids across the street think they are all bad ass with their hondas and whatnot. They were scared of my S10 4x4 only cause they knew that with the 35's I would happily crush their little plastic death traps. Since I got my dakota, I've trashed almost all of them on the freeway, and a few back streets as well.

And my wife kicks my ass all the time in her nicely modded, dropped and tuned '04 BWM 328is. Damn, that thing is way wicked.

Point is, the kids here know better than to try and take a V8 truck. This thing handles sick. My only real problem is the traction thing with an empty bed. But yesterday I ordered the locker for the rear, that'll help.

ok i've been reading this thread for awhile since it started and...wow.

first off, that soapiece guy was a troll, but that's over, how long ago? Let that die already. One reason I like this forum is the lack of bickering and trolling compared to anywhere else.

secondly, so many people are quick to slam "small cars" and no doubt it's due to the masses of rice (both asian, domestic and euro)...but that's no reason in hell to say all hondas, all vw, all dsms whatever they are, i don't care, are slow and rice. I have seen many frighteningly fast "compacts" that would hand 95% of the cars on the road their ass. Anyone seen the video of the srt-10 running a "turd" hyundai with a 4g63 that had, what a small turbo upgrade and higher boost? 500 hp couldn't touch that little car. There's dsms out on the street that can turn out 10 sec 1/4 mile times yet no one would ever know til it was too late. There are plenty of hondas that are seriously fast even all motor and the owners are not the ricer type at all. I met one guy a couple years back who had a stock or so it seemed 00 civic si. Rice right? Well the guy had a very mean turbocharger in there and though it looked stock, it put down 300 fwhp and was definitely a screamer. Though they are not a majority of the population obviously.

As for handling, come on now...we have trucks. None of our trucks are nascar craftsman trucks either (though I could care less for that crap...left turns for 500 laps...so...*yawn* exciting). Alright with a full hotchkis setup a dakota will be outstanding in the handling department especially for a truck. But no it's not going to be flying around willow springs or laguna seca door to door with an s2000, z4, m3, integra type r, well you get the point.

Don't get me wrong, I love my r/t. It's a great all-around truck that can be used for work and hauling stuff, yet is fun to drive, has to be one of the best handling trucks period and aside from the gas mileage, makes for a great daily driver. However, I'm still realistic about it because I know what my truck was designed for versus the next car. It may have a 5.9 v8 but it's still a 15 sec truck with a pretty low trap speed. If I spend money on bolt ons it can get into the 14s and maybe tap the 13s. But then how much money is that and to what end? It has potential, of course, like anything, but within reason, if I want to go really fast, this would not be my first choice for a platform to build on.

I just wish everyone would be a little more open minded about things...we are enthusiasts aren't we? I dunno about the rest of you, but I like and respect any car as long as the owner of that vehicle is reasonable about its capabilities. I'm NOT someone who's loyal to "domestics" or "imports" or "euros" or "coupes" or "sedans" or "dodge" or "chevy" or "bmw" or "toyota" etc etc...see how pointless that is? There's only one thing I can advise for anyone who thinks their vehicle, whatever it is, is the ultimate end all, be all, God's gift to the automobile world...go and drive some other cars. You'll be amazed at what you find.
