I was just wondering what the best wax is and the best polish for the best shine that I can buy at a parts store? How is polish suppost to work and when should I use it? What is the best way to get the most shine also? :biggthump

well i recently detailed my car with meguiars car wash, clay bar kit, and their deep crystal 3 stage kit of pre-wax paint cleaner, then polish, then a carnuba wax.

the pre wax and the polish is supposed to remove swirl marks and slight paint scratches and the wax seals in that shine.
i did mine with hand power but it sure would be easier with a buffer but using the buffer you can burn your paint out if you dont do it right.

heres my truck after this process

also you can check out autopia.org this forum is made for auto detailing and auto detailing only. some great info on here.
Good Luck!!

I used to use step three Maguires, a pure wax, to build up each time I did it. It lasted from Nov through August in NY when I finally waxed it again. By then, it still beaded up in the rain, but only a little bit. Now I use REJEX, something recommended to me by a Vette nut, and it lasts and lasts, with that still waxed look and feeling for 3 months now. Its even good on glass, it has that rain-x effect without the wipers jumping across. It's not in any stores, but can be easily found online. I found the best deal at www.skygeek.com

i've used the 3 step mothers process, same as the meguires on my car before and didn't notice much of a difference for all the extra work it took. this truck takes too long as it is being so big, i try to keep it simple. i've been using the eagle 1 nanowax which removes real easy and leaves no residue. it seems to last pretty good too, but probably not as long as a true paste wax. i've used most off the shelf waxes though and they all seem about the same. zymol would be my next down choice, but like the others leaves the hideous white residue.

what i want to try next though is zaino, supposed to be the best there is pretty much but also quite expensive for the full package.

I use this wax called " The Wax Shop". I don't know if you'll be able to find it where you're at.It's easy to find on the west coast. It seems to work really well, hides surface scratches, and doesn't leave a white powdery residue like waxes usually do. It is a high quality wax and costs around 8-10 bucks.

The three step systems work well with the clay bar to remove all the "fallout" for everyday driving. It's alot of work and you may not see all that great of results unless you have a show quality paint job without the factory orange peel.

You won't find ANYTHING better than Zaino. http://www.zainostore.com

I sell this wax for 250 with a full buff and clay. My customers come back every 6 months, not to mention it's a full 8 month wax :nana: Try it, and lemme know what you think. I'v used the mothers kit before, then found this zaino product at a new store I moved to and it had me sold at hello. It's actually a 2 step wax process, you mix 3 oz's of product with an accelrator. Really does leave the paint wet, not to mention it doesn't leave any kind of film, and can be applied in Direct sun-light.

Did you know there is an 18000 dollar tube of wax sold by zaino. It is used in a 6000 dollar detail job over seas. Takes a total of 60 some odd hours to detail a car. Talk about a nice gloss!

You are reffering to Zymols Vintage Glaze, its $1850 and you get unlimited reffills. Pretty good deal IMO. Especially if you can charge $6000 for it. If you want PRICEY, check out Swissol's Divine wax. It's $2000 and they custome make it to ur cars paint. If your lucky enough to be chosen for it...

Zaino brothers is amazing. I found out about it through a buddy of mine. The stuff is amazing and the shine you get lasts. Kinda expensive though.

meguiar's 3-step is SO much better for the average person than Zaino is. Shit, you can afford a good buffer and the 3-step and a claybar for what the stuff from zaino would cost you. I only use meguiar's on my truck (even before they "sponsored" me)

no buffer. i used a random orbiting polisher tho. with a fine cut foam pad. still took me all day, but well worth the effort.

I'm going to have to agree with you. I won some a while back at a car show, and I tried it on the Durango last Saturday. I didn't have anything else at the shop, and the D was in desperate need of a wax job from all the automatic carwashes.
I'm impressed! One of the better off-the-shelf products out there.

I'm going to try it with my Milwaukee buffer with a foam finishing pad and see how it works. If it does this good of a job by hand, I'm willing to bet it'd be even better by machine.

Anyone have opinions on Turtle Wax Ice?
It's a resurrected product that was sold back in the '80s under the name "Clear Guard". It's just a thick silicone emulsion. Streaks like crazy, and is pretty much done by the 2nd or 3rd carwash.

You'd be better off using the Turtle Wax Emerald Series...This product works well. IMHO it's right up there with Meguiar's Gold Class and other "premium" off-the-shelf products.

Or, like I mentioned above, Kit carnauba creme wax (also sold under the brand name "Formula 1") works exceptionally well. One of the best "bang for the buck" waxes out there. This wax has been around forever. It was at one time sold by Johnson Wax under the brand name "JWax". It's claimed to be the original pre-softened carnauba based wax. Other waxes at the time were like cement. My dad used it back in the '70s on his brand new '76 Jeep J-10. He's remained pretty loyal to that brand up till I started detailing his vehicles for him.
I waxed the Durango with it last weekend, and even the smell of it took me back down memory lane helping my dad wax his truck when I was just a little kid.

I was a long time user of Meguiar's 3-step system, after going to Zaino (using Z1 and Z2) what a difference. It takes 1/3 the time to use, way better shine and the protection lasts a hell of a lot longer too. This stuff works excellent!!

Here's my pics of my almost 7yr old Dak using a crappy 1.3mp camera.

Well, since everyone else is posting pics, here's one of mine.

This is with a quickie buff/wax using Auto Magic BC-2 with a spray of Magic Mist detailer to get rid of any excess splatter on the trim, and enhance the gloss a little more.

Use only Dawn dish soap, it's strong enough to strip wax off the paint without damaging the clear coat. This is what Zaino recommends before using their products.

BTW, if you want to use a quote from another person, go to their post and at the bottom right hand side of their post you will see a quote button, hit that and post your reply.

zaino recommends you wash the truck twice with dish soap. I personally like to wash the truck with dish soap once a month. Wax is thrown on this bad boy all the time( I love managing carwashes), so i'm not worried about the clear fading away. You will notice an improved shine using dish soap, a clay bar, and a wax, and a sealer. Spend the 2 hours, and enjoy the outcome!

i'm thinkin of waxing my truck, its been almost a year and some odd months since i did it.

can i use the dawn dish soap even tho my clear coat has peeled off on my bed? i dont want it to eat away the paint or nothing.

and i think i'm gonna use some turtle wax...unless i find one of these other recommend waxes. i really wanna try Zaino, but that ish isn't in my budget.

i already have a buffer, so i think i can get a nice shine, even tho my clear coat on the pasenger side is focked up

If the clear is already coming off of the bed, there isn't much u can do to protect it, except get it re painted, or buy a bottle of clear in a can and try to stop the cancer from spreading. Using the dish soap won't help the situation out, but it won't make it any worse.

if the clear is peeling...... wax wont do much to fix that problem.

the buffer will help but it sounds like the paint is hurting pretty good on your truck.

mmm.... Zaino.

Now that the car is a couple months old I decided to toss on one coat each of Z2 and Z5, with Z8 used inbetween coats. Once I get a couple more coats of Z2/Z5 done on there I'm going to give the new Z-CS a try.

and when i got the truck. after claybaring and useing the emerald series, it looked ALOT better then when the dealer had it fully buffed.
