a buddy of mine has a 93 dakota with a 318. He decided to put a 360 cam in it and it will only run with a 50 deg.advance in timing. Also it doesnt really want to idle. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do to keep the 360 cam in the truck and make it run right.

What year did the 360 cam come out of? The magnum 318 and magnum 360 cam are almost identical. You arent going to find any power gains by swapping one for the other.

What you are doing when you think you are advancing the timing is really screwing up the injector timing. Turning the distributor doesnt effect ignition timing. It just effects when the injectors fire. Setting the distributor is setting the fuel sync. I can give you the proper procedure to do that if you are interested.
