To be honest, I'd rather have his '92, I'm partial to Flame Red, but I definatly wouldn't pass on his latest engine.. since it would fit OH so nicely in my nice big engine compartment of my Ramcharger

I'd like to build a Plymouth Trail Blazer (I think thats right) the ones that had cloth tops, 2wd, lowered, yea! Been thinking for the last 4 years about doing a Dakota, shorten the frame, cut the top off, graft the bed to the cab, making it a roadster.

Hooker Super Comps the fit quite nicely. The Passenger side dropped right in, the Drivers side we had to drop the rack and reroute the tranny lines but once that was done pretty simple install. For those who want to do this swap I recommend the Schumacher Install kit its well worth the money makes for a straight foward swap.

I used there mounts when I dropped the 400 into my other dakato ... made the install easy as hell ... I didn't want to pay $300+ for there oil pan though so I went with the mopar BB truck pan and just took a 8lb hammer and fire to the crossmember and made it all play nice !

are those the $320 Hooker headers ?!?

Man that water pump is close. Isn't there a different one thats shorter? I know when I put one on my Shelby Dakota is different then the others and there was maybe about 1 inch more room then yours but hey if its working...RUN IT!! Looks like alot of fun is headed your way with that one. :woot:

ScatDak

That is a Shelby Dak Water Pump but I think the Shelby Motors sat differently in the engine compartment

I'd say that is the difference. Thats really the only tight spot, theres pretty good room in there other than that.

Dakota_T438

Yea the water pumps do run close to the radiator with V8's in these trucks. I built my owm motor mounts for my truck and actually had enough room to run a belt drive fan on it for a while. That thing looks good man I hope it all works out good for ya.

ScatDak,

That is one killer engine and a clean install.

What size radiator is needed to cool that engine?

How much more room would there be for water pump clearance if you had the Gen II sheetmetal in front?

Ed

02-20-2007, 05:23 AM
Thanks for the compliments it was a adventure nonetheless.

That radiator is from a Shelby Dakota. Its measures 18 1/4"l x 25 5/8"w x 1 1/4"t
Single Row Tank Inlet is 2" x 26 3/8" and the Tank Outlet is 2" x 26 3/8". The Gen2 front ends give a additional 3 inches of clearance from my measurements.

Scat,

Have you gotten it running yet, I'm very curious to see how it all pans out, I've got my 390 stroker at the machine shop now, and I'm expecting it back in a few weeks. I'm pretty sure I'm going to change out my front radiator support to the GenII to complete my Gen II swap just to add the room needed for the additional 2 cylendars. Looks great, can't wait to see how it all turns out.

Jay

Yes its up and running since July of last year. Everything works like a charm.

The extra room is nice but I think it would ruin the look of my Gen1.

What did you do for a cooling fan? I'm pretty sure you are running electric, just wondering if you have any pics?

Im using a derale pusher fan that has a 3500cfm rating. I have driven it in 100+ degree weather and the hottest its has ever gotten was 230 that not really considering the temp outside and it was stop and crawl traffic. If you convert it too a Gen2 front end then I would run a Black Magic 210 fan its a perfect fit for the Gen2 Radiator. Pics I dont think I have one of the Fan installed.

Here is a pic at the track

Here is a small Video of it going down the track.

Yeah Yeah Yeah, But you must also remember thats my trucks maiden voyage down the track. As for running dual fans the Gen1 nose wouldn't allow me to run a dual fan setup.

Dakota_T438

You can run dual fans I have them on mine one on the front of the radiator and one one ther rear of it. I did have a belt drive fan on my truck at one time. My motor sits way back in the engine bay the distributor cap it about a 1/2 inch from the firewall.

Hate to tell you there is no way I can possibly run a second fan on my Gen1.

I want to say he has Hedman Longtube headers?
Send Mike a PM, he probably won't catch this thread.

The headers are the same ones I use they are Hooker Super Comp part # 5803. All I used was a factory truck resr sump pan on my motor, but my motor sits further back in the engine compartment that Scat's does I fabricated my own motor mounts. He used the Schumacker conversion mounts.
