Well I did trade in the Intrepid yesterday, the day after the competition, so I can finally start drivin the Durango around and playin w/ it :)

Today I got the Panasonic 2083 Ghostface Touchscreen HU in there, and all the RCA's ran along w/ remote wire. So I hopefully don't have to take that damn dash off again, lol.

Well even though it seems like nobody really cares, lol. I'm gonna post pix anyway. This is definitely not what my install is going to be, but I needed somethin to hold me over till I get the 4 12s.

My old Memphis HP 12's on a 2500d, but the 2500d is at 8 ohms ;) I don't wanna fry the subs, lol. Its just a box my buddy had layin around so I'm stealin it for a little while.

You could have gotten a better CD player... but whatever.

Resonant Engineering ......I love those subs. My friend had 2 15" subs in his extended cab silverado.

Are ya jokin or what? Its a $500 cd player? If you're bein serious, what would make a CD player 'better' than this one?

If Panasonic didn't make good HU's, I doubt that the guy who's house I was just at with (I'm estimating here) a $150,000 extreme vehicle would be using 2 of them in his podium.

Alpine will be the best. Alpine is the best quality. It looks to me like you aren't exactly looking for that. So I'm sure that pannisonic is just fine. I just wouldn't be caught dead spending 500 bucks on it. I'd rather spend 800 or more on an Alpine.

with technology the way it is today...you can hardly tell the difference between the hu. i bet if you were blind folded and and we played each head unit throught the same amps and speakers...i bet you wouldnt know the difference.

you never really answered my question, lol. But yea, you're right. And if I get some W7s and MBQuart comps I'll then have the best setup ever in history and it can never get any better, ever

I'm not looking for quality? I own 2 subs that have an incredible amount of sound quality and sheer output togehter in one. Most ppl would kill to have em, but I'm not looking for quality, I apologize.

BTW...If you're not gonna listen to me, at least listen to Kaui, he seems to know what he's talking about.

i agree with kaui. alpine use to have the very best head unit, but now days a lot of other brands have caught up to if not surpassed alpine when it comes to technological advancements.

The wall is projected as next weeks plan but I needed somethin for the time being.

This is the way the box looked when I picked it up, actually it was even worse, it was the back 1/2 of my buddies wall from his car so it was full of expanding foam, and lots of crud. I had to chop a little bit off to even it out, make it semi-decent, lol.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/214000-214999/214211_217_full.jpg

My interiors = teh sux0rs  I need to have the bass all the way down so the interiors don't sound like complete crap. So even w/ the NF all the way up the bass was still kind of weak w/ the 2500d at a little over 4 ohms unless I have the gain craaanked so I switched it down to 1. Sounded a lot better that way.

The box turned out to be 5.8 cubes after port and displacements, tuned to about 34 hz. 40in^2 of port.

Maybe it was used to fill the box to make the sub sound louder.
Well, isn't the foam on the outside of the box? Maybe it was to keep it from rattling or something???

kaui56

but foam in an insulator, it would deaden the sound. not like poly fill where it helps the sound.

JohnnyKo12
06-05-2004, 09:44 PM
Well, isn't the foam on the outside of the box? Maybe it was to keep it from rattling or something???

yea basically, he was using it to fill in gaps under the wall where the seat was, that and fiberglass is all over the box, he glassed the boxes together or somethin.

So I turned the sub around and it did sould a lot better as expected, just wanted to try it forward. So yea, the sub was pretty good at first, it was aight, I figured hey its only one sub, maybe thats why its just kind of loud.......

Then they started to warm up after 2 days of playing. Holy shit!!! This thing is pounding the crap outta my rango. I'm so surprised that I'm gettin this much low end out of just one sub. The lows just shake my whole body. I need to tune my wall to the low 30s, it's gonna be absolutely insane :mullet:

It's so easy to make a SUV loud, how come I didn't get one of these earlier?!!? I gotta go take a listen to my buddies H2 in his Blazer again, I think I might be louder

just a quick question...what good is a wall if you cant hear the music?

JohnnyKo12
06-09-2004, 09:06 AM
Why can't ya hear the music, lol. I'm not gonna have it full tilt all day, I'd like to keep my hearing till I'm at least 30. All ya gotta do is turn the bass down on the hu ;)

And even w/ that much bass you can still hear the music. I've got some decent interiors and the highs absolutely scream on em. It'll be good. I'm not sayin at all that its gonna be the best SQ vehicle in the world, I realize that having a quality midbass driver is useless when you have 4 15s, lol. Its not gonna make a difference, but it'll still sound pretty nice :) I'll be happy.

And I'm in Renselear, IN.

BTW....an extreme vehicle thats doin a 169 now and probably over a 170 by sunday is real loud w/ the door open. REAL LOUD :vomit:<---thought I was gonna do this, lol.

JohnnyKo12

OMG, unless you're gonna build a full wall completely taking out the backseats and building from that floor, never try to build a wall in a Durango. There is a hell of a lot of space in there, but there's funky ass curves everywhere, slanted windows, a curved hatch, etc....

So yesterday after about 4-5 hours and about 2 sheets of MDF Dave decided to just kick the 'wall' we had goin and say screw this shit. Believe it or not I'm gonna be bigger and probably louder w/ a monster ass CRX box. Its 16.5 cubes internal b4 displacements and port, so its gonna be a little smaller than that, but its still gonna pound like crazy for daily. If I remember correctly I'll have about 210^2in of port. Not sure at all about on a sensor, but we'll see soon here and then officially on Sunday at the 3x in Wisconsin.

No pics for now of anything, but I'll get some soon :)

I was at a dealer show for my company this weekend and there were actually 2 durangos there. One was nothing for SPL but it looking nice as hell, even though it had cheap subs in it, they were Audiobahn but only the AWC12Ts. The other actually had a wall of 4 15s. It was sponsered by Digital Audio. It was pretty loud, but had a shitty as fiberglass job. I have only giberglassed a couple of things, but i could have done better. it was almost as if the just said f**k the sanding part and only got the clumps off and then painted it. But it was still decently loud. Prolly about 145-150 db. But, i thought that you would be interested in that since you had tried to make a wall. I wish i would have had a camera, but i did not think that anyone would have had a durango.

My install still has a lot of work to be done on it b4 the sensor likes it, but as of now is f'n cranks on daily driving. The subs are barely moving and ppl are sayin that its pretty loud, then I let it rip

I did a 146.4 at the 3x in Wisconsin. I wasn't expecting much though. I didn't have a chance to play with a sensor b4 my run really (I was sidetracked, explain later).

I basically got to the show and hopped into the lane w/out much playin around, the install was 1 day old and I'm lucky I had enough time to find my note, lol. My 2 hour drive to the show turend into about 4 hours.

I ended up getting a flat tire on the way there......I have no drill. I need to have a drill to get my amp rack off to get the box out of the car to get to the spare tire, blah blah blah. Long story short, it takes me and a few ppl around 2 hours to change a spare tire.

Which sucked even more cuz I had 2 Team RF 15s sitting in my front seat that Team Sounds and Motion were depending on to use at the show, they're freakin out when I'm not showing up.

I was choking my port along my back hatch pretty good which was hurtin my # a bit, but I wanted to see what it would do all the way back for a reference point. I'd say that a 146.4 ain't too bad in a vehicle that still can seat 5-6 ppl :D Got a few ideas up my sleeve too, but I ain't gonna tell ;)

The equipment has a lot of potential, I'm gonna guess at around just about a 150 in dbdrag, maybe a 153+ in MECA by the end of the season. Just guesses though, only time will tell.

So what ya think ppl?

The rattle is a little worse than I thought, cuz the subs are really kind of high. The roof has a lot of flex in the back esp on lower notes. Gotta be hurtin my #, time to brace it somehow.

I can actually see pretty good out of the rearview mirror for parking and whatnot, its not too bad at all. My blind spot seems to be a little bigger though, especially w/ small cars, they can hide in there real easy. But thats all pretty irrelavant if I have the subs pounding, one good hit and the mirror is down and useless anyway, lol.

so let me get this straight, you have 4-15s with what looks to be a decent amount of power, from the looks of those two orion amps, and they are in a ported box, and you only got a 146 out of them,I understand you didn't get a chance to tune or find your note as you say,but that seems like a waste if thats all you could get on that , I have a car down here that gets into the mid 150s with two tens in it thats driven everyday, not just built for spl,or anything like that, its a daily driver. just seems like there are some other problems with this install or just alot of wasted time.... just my .02 worth not trying to flame on anyone............. ;)

Also not trying to flame, and this is my .02...you're either:

a)not on a termlab sensor
b)a liar
c)a complete moron

Go find the dBDrag Street A world record for 2004. Explain to me how you're louder ;) Then again, after a little work on my install I can also probably hit a 160 on an Audiocontrol on the floor w/ the door open. Saying I do mid 50s w/ 2 tens w/ no other details is useless.

But on another note, I will admit that my score is pretty shitty. The install as it sits now pounds like crazy, but the sensor is not liking it at all. I have a lot of work ahead of me if I want to hit some better numbers. Not gonna be easy, but hey, it might be fun (hopefully, lol).

your right it wasn't on a termlab meter but on a termlab meter it did a 147which if my calculations are correct your numbers you put up are still pretty shitty for 4-15s,and on the audio control meter on the windshield legal, not outlaw with the door open, it did a 157 so ad 10db to your score and its still lower then those two tens. but its ok you said you were going back to the drawing board anyway so good luck on your quest for that ultra high db mark, and by the way i'm not a moron or a liar, just trying to point out the obvious............

They tried doing a full wall, but gave up. That was like on page on of this thread. The curves are too damn tricky. I have seen one wall in a durango, but it looked shitty as hell. Plus, you need to keep in mind that this is also his daily driver, you don't want to lose all visibility. A wall might sound best, but is it worth it? I am currently contemplating canning my 3 15s and going with 2 18s. The air displacement would be a little less, as far as i have calculated, but i still need to accommodate for the throw of the subwoofers, not just the surface area. Any ideas with that? They would be the AW1805Q from Audiobahn... Comments, suggestions, ideas?

I have never really worked with that woofer, but some advice on 18s they are big ass speakers and they take alot of airspace to make them work correctly, but so does 3-15s. It also depends on what your trying to accomplish with the system as well? let me know what you want to achieve and maybe I can throw some ideas at you.....

Well, i actually had one of those before in my old car. I am not trying to accomplish anything specific. Just want something that is different and nobody else has. Everyone has 15s, i want something different. And with the 18s i have a design for a box in my head that will allow for me to throw the speakers in a fashion that will virtually eliminate my rattle. With my 15s, they are hard to position but having only 2 18s, it will be a little bit easier (even though they are bigger). If i had to accomplish one thing, it would be to eliminate the rattle comming from the hatch. Right now, the damn thing is about to fly open. I have tried everything with the 15s as far as turning them around and what not, but unless they are firing toward the back of the truck, they are no where near as loud. I don't think i will have that problem with the 18s...

A word of advice 98, if you fire the subs up, don't go too far over the window line. I'll try to get a decent movie of what the top of my rango looks like when its slammin', I truly get about 1.5" of roof flex. Have someone slap your roof real hard and thats what I sound like :( I'm thinkin it might be cuz I'm so high near the roof.

I think I'm gonna chop my port, my buddy's tlab sensor comes in tomorrow. I gotta get louder. Tuned to 34 is not a good way to get loud, lol. Thinkin bout hoppin up another 10hz on my tuning and seein what happens. How much you guys think it'll help?

I don't know if i would jump that much on the first try. There is no going back from there... i would not go more than 5 or 6 hz for the first try. then if that doesn't seem to help, then do 5 more and so on. jumping that much, you could very easily jump over you optimum frequency.

I should probably do it the right way and just chop down inch by inch by inch till I stop gaining, but man, thats a lot of work, lol. I just need to get a full day to myself to accomplish that one.

yea, i can see where that would take some time, but what choice do you really have. you want it done right and you don't want it to all be for nothing...
