OK, so I'm sure some of you are tired of my threads but they are going to use. I plan to set up this truck as a street/drag truck and keep the 3.9 just to prove a point that 3.9s can be made fast. But to get to the point of this thread, how would 4.56 gears in a 3.9 5spd do. I heard slow97dak saying that it jumped his RPMs up to around 3000 at 70 in top gear but I think he has quite a few more mods to his truck than me. I already did research and I know who to go with if I do this and the price and all that good stuff. I was just wondering how well they would work and if I need to do any modifications to my axle and transmission. Thanks again guys!

his mods have nothing to do with his RPMs, just the gearing. I forgot what size his slicks are, so that has something to do with his RPMs too. Nothing would need to be done to anything if all ur wanting to do is the rear gears. And i think 4.56s would help u tremendously with accelleration. Someone might tell u that 4.10s are better though.

They'd be fine. They'd be the best mod you could do IMO.

Nope, no other mods needed.

Thanks for the info guys. It might be a little while though, I need to pay it off which will be bout 6 months and I'm going to get a fiberglass replacement front end and tailgat+roll pan, got in a wreck and those parts are beat up pretty badly, truck is still driveable though. This will be my next mod after I get this other crap out of the way. Thanks alot guys!

I been looking into gettin some 4.56's (possibly 4.10's).not looking to make mine a drag truck or anything close to that but i do 98% of my drivin around town and i got the 3.9 so gas isnt too bad im basically looking to hav a more FUN ride around town... but what i dont know is where to get them.... can i put them in or should i just leave it to the pro's... what kind of shop would i go to get them put in?.... can i put a posi unit in there when i change the gears?.... what kind of price am i looking at for gears/posi/ pro install? Thanks!

Go for a pro install. It should be arround $500.00. I had 4wheelparts install mine. Fantastic job. Make sure you check out the shop that does the install for you first. If they are not installed right you will have problems.

Hands down go with the 4.56's then. With mostly city driving and a V6, 4.56's will be better all around for you without a doubt.

If you want to upgade the gears I would say def add a posi, if you have an open rear end right now. I'm guessing you have a 8.25 rear end.

10 bolt/oval cover = 8.25
12 bolt/stop sign cover = 9.25
